New Report Gives Promising Update on Netflix’s Live-Action Pokemon Show

Pokemon fans hold on to your Pokeballs! A new report has surfaced with exciting news about a live-action Pokemon show coming to Netflix. As Hollywood continues to make video game adaptations like The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it was only a matter of time before Pokemon got the same treatment. The popular monster-collecting franchise has become a major pop culture phenomenon over the years, and fans were thrilled when the 2019 live-action film Detective Pikachu hit theaters. Since then, we haven’t heard much about another live-action Pokemon project, until now.

Variety recently reported that Netflix has been developing a live-action Pokemon series since at least June 2021. Popular movie pundit Kristian Harloff even took to Twitter to share that Netflix is in the process of “going from development to pre-production” on the series. He also mentioned that the streamer sees the project as their next flagship title after Stranger Things comes to an end with its upcoming fifth season. This news comes after Ash Ketchum, the main character of the venerable Pokemon anime series, bid farewell to the series after 25 episodes in a final season dubbed Pokemon Ultimate Journey: The Series. Ash’s story will come to an end in the new anime in the series, which will follow entirely new heroes.

Although there isn’t much information available about the upcoming live-action Pokemon series, fans are already anticipating what might be. Pokemon has established itself as a mainstay of entertainment, and many US viewers now watch it exclusively on Netflix. New seasons of the Pokemon anime have recently only been available on Netflix, and a new stop-motion show called Pokemon Concierge will also soon be available on the service. The next logical step for the franchise seems to be a live-action adaptation, which has the potential to be a huge success.

Although it’s unclear when the series will premiere, fans are still excited by the news. It was widely believed that the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender would be the service’s next big success, but it now appears that Pokemon might overtake it. After all, fans of all ages adore the series and it has a sizable fan base. It makes sense that Pokemon would be considered by Netflix as their upcoming major flagship title. It’s interesting to note that Harloff suggested the live-action series might have been the cause of Ash’s anime story’s conclusion.

This has caused fans to question whether Netflix intends to adapt Ash and Pikachu’s adventures as they strive to be “the very best like no one ever was. If this is accurate, it won’t be the first 1-to-1 anime adaptation to appear on the service. Fans are eager to see what Netflix has in store, regardless of the course that the live-action Pokemon series takes. For more than 20 years, Pokemon has been a cherished franchise, so seeing it revived in a new setting is exciting. With Stranger Things soon to come to an end, Netflix is undoubtedly looking for its next big hit, and it appears that Pokemon might be it.
