MCU Theory: Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings Tied to Oldest Kang Variant

Hey guys, a new theory has surfaced about a potential connection between the Ten Rings from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Kang the Conqueror’s variants. Finally, after years of teasing, the organization of the Ten Rings has been seen in full during the MCU’s Phase 4. However, the origin of the Ten Rings still remains a mystery. According to the theory, the tomb in which the Ten Rings were found by Xu Wenwu could have belonged to Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Rama-Tut, the oldest Kang variant in Marvel Comics.

The fact that Wong, Bruce Banner, and Captain Marvel had no knowledge of the Ten Rings’ origins or composition could suggest that they had originated in either the distant future or another reality altogether, pointing to a Kang variant being the original owner. This creates an incredibly strong connection between Shang-Chi and the rest of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Since the introduction of both the Ten Rings in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Kamala Khan’s bangle in Ms. Marvel, it has been heavily rumored that these ancient relics will be crucial to the MCU’s future, similar to Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet in the Infinity Saga.

This idea is yet to see any payoff in the franchise, but that’s only because Marvel Studios is still building the mythos surrounding Kang the Conqueror and the concept of the multiverse. This theory is backed up by the physical appearances of these relics, as both the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel’s bangle are adorned with similar-looking scripture, and both light up when in use. These same markings and light design were seen most recently in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which gave audiences a look at Kang the Conqueror’s Quantum Realm empire, which is also smattered with the same text-like design as the Ten Rings and the bangle.

Establishing a connection between the Ten Rings and Rama-Tut could also explain one of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ biggest unanswered questions, which is the mysterious beacon being sent out during the mid-credits scene. The beacon could be a warning being sent to Rama-Tut that his relic has been found and is in use, perhaps only being sent out now that the Rings are being used for good instead of malice, as they were when used by Wenwu. If the beacon is in fact being sent to Rama-Tut, this perhaps suggests that this variant of Kang the Conqueror will be featured as the villain in the rumored Shang-Chi 2.

The sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been speculated to release during the MCU’s Phase 6 and is thought to include many Kang variants, though if this theory turns out to be true, Rama-Tut would be the most formidable variant that Shang-Chi could battle. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings left many questions unanswered, but hopefully, Shang-Chi 2 could explore the origins of the Ten Rings, and explain their connection to Kang the Conqueror, their similarities to Ms. Marvel’s bangle, and the mysterious beacon that currently sending out to places unknown.

If this theory turns out to be true, Shang-Chi 2 would also be the best place to better develop Rama-Tut as a major Kang variant, especially since there has been no word of a continuation of Moon Knight’s MCU story, which would be the obvious place to investigate an Egyptian Pharaoh variant of Kang.
