Kang and Janet Might Have Had Intimate Moment in Bed: Writer Reveals
Kang and Janet were trapped in the Quantum Realm together for many years, which led some Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans to theorize that the pair may have been romantically involved. The recent release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania confirmed that Janet and Kang worked together to repair the Conqueror’s time chair so they could escape the Quantum Realm. However, after Janet learned of all the things that Kang had done in other timelines, she sabotaged the time chair and trapped him down there.
In a recent interview with IGN, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness was asked about the possibility of a romantic relationship between Janet and Kang while they were in the Quantum Realm for so long. Loveness referred to Kang as “Mr. Hunk” and suggested that it would be difficult for them not to be attracted to each other. He intentionally left the nature of their relationship vague, but hinted that they were “very good friends.” Loveness also explained that there is “magic” in what is unsaid and not explicitly shown in movies and that every detail doesn’t have to have a backstory or explanation.
While some MCU fans have theorized that the duo may have had a sexual relationship, Loveness did not confirm or deny this. He did suggest that there is a lot of strength in “relationships that could go either way” and that “maybe it did, maybe it didn’t.” Loveness also suggested that Janet may have kept her relationship with Kang a secret from her family and the Avengers because telling them could cause bad things to happen. For example, Kang might kill them or steal their Pym Particles and escape.
Loveness compared the situation between them to “your grandpa talking about what happened” when he was away at war. He suggested that it’s best not to bring it up because it could hurt a lot of people. However, Loveness did tease that a sexual relationship between the two characters is possible: “Yeah, maybe they had sex. Who knows?” Before the release of Quantumania, Michelle Pfeiffer revealed that Janet had a “very rich history with Kang” while she was in the Quantum Realm and that “the Quantum Realm can change a person.”
The film showed just how much time Janet spent with Kang, but it did not explicitly state whether the two were romantically involved or not. It was confirmed that Janet was with Bill Murray’s Lord Krylar for at least some time while she was part of the Freedom Fighters. Since Janet told Hank that she “had needs,” it is reasonable to theorize that she and Kang may have had a sexual relationship. However, Janet would likely not be proud of being with Kang after seeing all the things he had done in other timelines. She probably wanted to keep that a secret.
Nevertheless, Janet played a part in taking down Kang the Conqueror, at least for the time being, and anything she may have done with him is now in the past. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania explores the dynamics between Janet and Kang, and how their relationship may have been affected by their isolation in the Quantum Realm. While the film does not provide a definitive answer to the question of whether they were romantically involved, it does suggest that their relationship was complex and that they were “very good friends.”
