No Way Home Beats The Force Awakens To Become The 4th Biggest Movie Ever

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s rerelease with just 11 minutes of added footage has proven to be highly beneficial. Last year when the film came out, it made $1.9 billion. Sony needed $100 million more to enter that double Billion Dollar club. And while it seemed a huge task, they achieved it pretty quickly. Even though the rerelease is counted as a separate movie, we can safely count its total along with the original release. It’s the same movie with only a little added footage. And Avatar has had several rereleases over the years. So, let’s treat Spider-Man similarly because that way, No Way Home beats The Force Awakens!

Here are the Top 5 highest grossing movies before No Way Home’s release:

1 – Avatar ($2.847 Billion)

2 – Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 Billion)

3 – Titanic ($2.201 Billion)

4 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.069 Billion)

5 – Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 Billion)

Now, No Way Home has surpassed Infinity War and The Force Awakens and claimed that number 4 spot. Here’s how the table looks now:

1 – Avatar ($2.847 Billion)

2 – Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 Billion)

3 – Titanic ($2.201 Billion)

4 – Spider-Man: No Way Home: ($2.082 Billion)*

5 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.069 Billion)

6 – Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 Billion)

No Way Home beats The Force Awakens

It had opened up with $5.5 million on its rerelease weekend. And it made another $1.3 million on its second weekend. The movie already stood as the 3rd biggest film at the domestic Box Office. And now the domestic total has reached $812 million*. So, it’s enormous for Sony, and it’ll be interesting to see where No Way Home ends up on its second Box Office run, as the rerelease has brought in a total of $813 worldwide.

Sony was contracted to release a Spider-Man movie every two years, or else the rights would return to Marvel. And this rerelease has given them an extra year. Now, instead of launching a new Spider-Man movie by December 2023, they could do it sometime in 2024. The MCU only has three movies coming out in the year – Captain America 4, Thunderbolts & Fantastic Four. Deadpool 3 is expected for the year as well.

But we should expect a new Spider-Man trilogy to be announced soon, with Spider-Man 4 coming out in 2024. Don’t be surprised if, along with Venom 3, Sony announces separate Spider-Man movies for Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and a new actor. He plays Miles Morales within the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
