Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the legends currently working in Hollywood, and every time he stars in a movie, he offers us something fresh. And he became a legend working with one of the industry’s greatest directors, none other than Martin Scorsese. Together, the director-actor duo of Scorsese and DiCaprio has come up with five movies – Gangs of New York, The Departed, The Aviator, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street. Their sixth movie will be Killers of the Flower Moon, which is set to come out in 2023 on Apple TV+. But guess what, their journey together won’t end after that.
According to a new report from THR, Scorsese is set to produce and direct The Wager, and DiCaprio will also be a producer and its lead. The movie is based on a newly released book, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder. And guess what, this book is written by author David Grann who also wrote Killers of the Flower Moon (the book that their 6th movie is based on). So, David Grann’s work has become a significant source of stories for Scorsese and DiCaprio.
As far as the story of The Wager is concerned, it is set in the 1740s and features two groups of shipwrecked men. One lands on the coast of Brazil with 30 people, while the other ends up on the coast of Chile six months later and in worse condition with three sailors onboard. So, the movie would feature the struggle of these men trying to save their lives amidst harsh conditions and a political conspiracy.
As of now, the filming timeline is unknown to us. But the movie will be yet another Apple Original film. So, we should expect its preproduction to begin after Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are done with Killers of the Flower Moon next year.
