Why Zod Is Returning In The Flash 2023

The DCEU is about to release the most important film in its history. They have tried and failed in establishing a universe, which has led WB to institute a reboot in place of a Justice League sequel. Ever since the DC fandom, we have known the updated template of DC’s releases. They seem to want to establish independent continuities and then have them interact as and when necessary. The Batman, for one, is in an isolated universe. While movies like The Flash and Aquaman The Lost Kingdom seem to be taking place in adjacent universes. Regardless, we have big news from Cinemacon. It seems that Michael Shannon will be returning in The Flash. But do you know why Zod is returning in The Flash? Keep reading to find out.

Let me start by saying that The Flash seems more like a season finale than a Cinematic Universe starter. It seems that the cast of the movie keeps getting bigger and bigger as time goes on. The first person to be introduced into this movie was Michael Keaton’s Batman, then the Fandom footage showed us two different Flash(es) and now things have taken a drastic turn with the resurrection of General Zod. But how is this possible? Wasn’t the general killed at the hands of Superman, and if not, then who will save us from this threat in The Flash. We think that the answer to all of these questions lies in the promotional material itself.

Why Zod Is Returning In The Flash 2023

You see, it has been clarified by the promotional material and the interviews given by the cast and the crew that every character appearing in The Flash has a designated role. Michael Keaton’s Batman will be a guide to The Flash in this movie and is then expected to take up a mentorship role in Batgirl. Then there is the appearance of Lara Kent’s Supergirl who is set to replace Superman in the DCEU. Both of these characters will be headlining the DCEU in the future. But the question remains, how can one superhero show up in a universe where she has not existed up until now and where is Superman.

why Zod is returning in The Flash

Well, you see, The Flash’s Speedforce regularly messes with the space-time continuum. This is a constant theme in the comics and even in the CW show. We feel that something similar might be happening in this universe. It is an open secret that WB’s The Flash would be borrowing some elements from The Flashpoint Paradox comic storyline. The Flash will travel back in time to try and save his mother, in the process, he will change the world forever and try to fix it. The Flash will succeed at the latter but some things will not go back to normal.

We suspect that this meddling will lead to the disappearance of Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman from the DCEU. Instead, they will be replaced by Michael Keaton and Lara Kent. It is also possible that Superman never made it to earth in this reality and Zod was able to come and conquer without restraint. Lara would, hence, be the only person strong enough to stop him at the end of The Flash.

The Possibilities

What an incredible surprise it would be to live out the final battle of Man Of Steel in an alternate universe with a Supergirl variant. We won’t be surprised if the fight gets a bit bigger in scale. Maybe Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot will make cameo appearances for the final battle, just like Avengers: Endgame. But that seems too wistful. We do hope, however, that the appearance of Zod will lead to some important moments in The Flash.

Zod’s resurrection might be the moment that Barry realizes that he has done irreparable damage to the multiverse. Or maybe Zod’s resurrection is the main plotline of the entire movie. All of this is, of course, speculation.
