The world of Stranger Things is quite strange itself. It was created as an ode to the classic 70s and 80s vibe. The show itself delivers an equal dosage of horror and fantasy. It is akin to a nostalgic power trip. The main cast of the show helps people relive the time of their youth and it creates a feeling of remembering something rather than watching something new. Everything from the parents to the cop, to the deaths, is reminiscent of an older time. This show is full of classic tropes. Small town, a pre-pubescent main cast, a secret lab on the outskirts of town, and a girl with mysterious powers. Eleven is arguable, the best thing about the show but this Stranger Things season 4 clip makes us feel bad for her.
The first season of the show was riddled with mystery and intrigue. We had no idea what was coming our way. One would have thought that the upside-down would be the main threat in the show but then we came to realize one of the core themes of this genre of entertainment. You see, all the monsters and evil abstract things in the world of the show could never compete with the cruelty and the selfishness of human beings themselves. With evil humans and mysterious powers on the prowl, it has always been an uphill battle for survival for the main cast. But they’ve also always had a secret weapon in their back pocket.
Stranger Things Season 4 Clip
I am, of course, talking about Eleven. This wonderful creature is the Dues Ex Machina of the entire series. Her psionic powers are the be all end all deference for all the monsters of the upside-down. Even The Mind Flayer, in all of his hive mind glory, was no match for the plot armor that Eleven wields. But now it seems that the character is being nerfed in the show’s latest season. Recently, Millie Bobby Brown appeared on Jimmy Fallon in order to promote season 4 of the show. This interview also showcased a clip from the new season. We have reproduced the video for you below, take a look:
This is not the Eleven we are used to seeing. It seems that there is something that is hindering her powers. The main cast is now in High School and we can understand that the showrunners would want to use the bullying trope in their show much like they have used all the others. But we are not sure how wise is it to make Eleven the butt of this joke. It is quite absurd to think that this powerful woman would-be victim to the whims and fancies of “the mean girl”. In fact, Eleven does try to stand up for herself in the clip but fails to achieve anything because her psionic powers fail to respond.
What is happening? Is something jamming her powers? Could The Mind Flayer be making a move that none of us could have expected? Or is this the act of the writers trying to take away the main cast’s ace in the hole? After all, without Eleven’s powers, there is not much the cast can do to halt the advent of the vicious creatures of the upside-down. But what is this new development? Let us break it down.
Eleven without powers is a bit more conceited than all the other characters because she is not aware of her own limitations. Millie Bobby Brown’s character has been living in a world where she is the ultimate weapon for good. What happens when the barrel of the gun gets jammed? We are about to find out in season 4 of the show if the Stranger Things season 4 clip is any indication.
What do you think will happen in the next season? Do you think the cast will be able to win out against the monsters without the powers of Eleven?
