15 Most Powerful Wizards And Witches of The Wizarding World

There are many powerful wizards and witches in the Harry Potter series and power is a very significant theme for the series in general. Even though power holds different meanings for different people still we have devised a list according to our idea of it. These are some of the characters that we consider powerful because of the skill, knowledge and their magical abilities.

15. Neville Longbottom:

Throughout the series, Neville was seen as a misfit who couldn’t even perform the simplest of spells and was always in trouble. In the end, however, Neville proves his worth and the fact that he could draw the sword of Gryffindor from the sorting hat proves that he was always a worthy Gryffindor.

14. Remus Lupin:

Lupin may be a gentle soul but he was a trained fighter and a big part of the Order. Lupin is one of the few original members of the Order who fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and made a difference. Lupin trained Harry to perform the Patronus charm and played a huge role in the development of Harry’s character. The fact that he is a werewolf is not really a power because he cannot control himself in that state.

13. Kingsley Shacklebolt:

Kingsley was one of the most talented Aurors in the ministry and was therefore allotted the important task of protecting the minister of magic at all times. He is wise and trustworthy and a valuable part of the Order of the Phoenix. After the battle of Hogwarts Kingsley later became the new minister of magic and he totally deserved it.

12. Mad-eye-Moody:

Alastor Moody was one of the most powerful aurors in the ministry and he proved it by catching many death eaters and sending them to Azkaban. Moody was a crucial part of the original as well as the re-established Order of the Phoenix. His skills and wits helped the Order and his death was a major loss to them.

 11. Nymphadora Tonks:

The perfect example of a bad-ass Hufflepuff is none other than Nymphadora Tonks who was a metamorphmagus and an Auror. Tonks’s abilities of changing shape made her very powerful and a threat to her enemies. She was a fun loving person but when it came to fighting dark wizards and witches, Tonks was a menace.

10. Sirius Black:

Sirius may have died too soon in the series but he played a huge role. Sirius was good at making strategies and his animagus form which was still not known by most people was a big plus point. Sirius was good at magic and flying and was not afraid to fight. He was killed only because he wasn’t even looking at Bellatrix who caught him off guard. If Sirius had survived he would have been very helpful in the fight against Voldemort.

9. Hermione Granger:

Hermione is undoubtedly the brightest witch of her age and she has shown her wit and skills on countless occasions. It won’t be wrong to say that Harry Potter would not have survived without the amazing mind of Hermione Granger who was always ready with a plan and solution. Hermione was good at dueling too but her contribution to the story has been much more than just conjuring different spells.

8. Harry Potter:

This should not be surprising that the main character is on the list too. Harry may not have been the brightest kid and may have had a lot of luck and good friends to help him out but don’t forget the fact that he was a quick learner and good at magic. Harry’s best subject was the defence against the dark arts and he had great instincts while dueling. He could conjure a full-bodied Patronus at a young age and fought many dark wizards. At the end, he became the master of death and we don’t need to say anything else.

7. Salazar Slytherin:

All four founders of Hogwarts were extremely powerful and deserve a spot on the list but we have chosen Slytherin for particular reasons. Slytherin created his own language and made a secret chamber in the school which was hid because of his powerful magic for thousands of years. Slytherin was feared by most and was among the most powerful wizards.

6. Bellatrix Lestrange:

She may be a character that we all hate but Bellatrix was extremely powerful and brutal. Her craziness made her fierce and she was always ready for a fight. Bellatrix was a trusted accomplice of Voldemort, in fact so trusted that she and Voldemort together created another dark wizard. She was not afraid to use any dark spells and was hard to kill.

5. Severus Snape:

Snape may have been the bravest man but he was also extremely powerful. The potions master was a brilliant occlumence that let him keep the biggest secret and fool Voldemort for such a long time. Snape made many spells on his own including the deathly ‘Sectumspemra’. He was a big threat to Voldemort from the beginning and died for the sake of the wizarding world.

4. Minerva McGonagall:

McGonagalll is the head of Gryffindor house and an extremely powerful witch. She put her skills to the world of academics and taught many generations of wizards and witches but when there was need McGonagall did not hesitate. She fought to save Hogwarts and her students from Voldemort and later became the new headmistress of Hogwarts.

 3. Gellert Grindelwald:

Even though his story is not focused on but it has been established that before Voldemort, Grindelwald was the darkest and most powerful wizard. He stole the Elder wand from Gregorovitch and conjured many plans for the ‘greater good’. He made his own spells and tested them on his fellow students at Durmstrang. Before being defeated he had conquered most of Europe and had become extremely powerful.

2. Voldemort:

The list is incomplete without the dark lord and we all know that Voldemort was extremely powerful. He may have been too proud which led to his downfall but he achieved things that most wizards would not even think of. He split his soul into 7 parts and almost became immortal. He was killed many times but came back and only died when Harry and his friends united against him.

 1. Albus Dumbledore:

wizards

The greatest wizard of all time according to us is none other than the Hogwarts headmaster Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Dumbledore was extremely powerful and had defeated Gellert Grindelwald who was the most evil wizard of his time. Voldemort feared him and Dumbledore played a crucial role in defeating him.
