Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is one of the biggest cinematic events with it giving us another addition to the roster of heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was an essential movie in Phase 4 of the franchise as it gives us a hint of the other additions we are going to see in the next in terms of fresh additions. The movie successfully introduced us to a completely new universe and a world of characters. Even the side characters in the movie were given enough to make us expect something completely unique from them going ahead in the franchise. One of the essential parts of the movie was also the post-credits scene and the way it was able to set up links to the previous MCU projects. Let’s take a look at the key detail in the Shang-Chi post-credits scene which reveals how Smart Hulk transformed into Bruce Banner.
The plot of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings follows as we see Shang-Chi and his sister discover the world of Ta-Lo in order to stop their father from letting loose one of the biggest threats to the world out in the open. The movie introduced us to a whole new world that was left unexplored in previous movies of the franchise. Another great part of the movie definitely has to be the post-credits scene where we got an idea of what could be expected from the movies going ahead in the franchise. It also included a cameo from Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. This scene was essential as it allowed us to understand how the events of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings have an impact on the MCU. We also find that the Shang-Chi and Katy are now part of the Avengers too.
But the biggest shock of the post-credit scene definitely has to be the return of Bruce Banner in his human form compared to the last time we when we saw him as Smart Hulk in Avengers Endgame. The latter was a combination of the intelligence of Bruce Banner and the physical presence of Hulk. This makes us clearly wonder how did Banner return to normal considering we were sure that Banner and Hulk had reached an understanding of co-existing. This was assumed to be a permanent solution.
Another important detail has to be the fact that Banner was seen wearing an armband on his left hand This armband also had a green screen on it that is something we haven’t seen before in any other appearance by his. It is clearly an accessory for one of the smartest beings on earth. At the same time, this could be the very reason that Bruce Banner now appears to be in his human form. This could be a nod to the time from the comics when Bruce Banner stopped being Hulk because his Gamma radiation was put into someone else. The someone else was Amadeus Cho whose mother played an essential supporting character in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
According to the comics, Banner ends up absorbing too much radiation and this leads to him nearly exploding and almost killing millions, Cho grabs the opportunity and gets Banner’s Gamma tradition into himself. This leads him to become the new Hulk while subsequently saving the world. Cho uses a nanobots-based technology to achieve this feat, known as the Sternbots. These nanobots allowed Cho to change the structure of his cells to contain and use Banner’s gamma energy. This also allows him to control his transformation to Hulk.
With Mark Ruffalo set to reprise his role in the upcoming Disney Plus She-Hulk series, this could mean that this would be the last time we see him as he might end up passing his legacy to a new hero. We know that Abomination is also set to appear in the series and we got to see a lot of him in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The show could simply show the new version of Hulk as played by Tatiana Maslany getting the gamma radiation while Bruce guides her in using these powers. Let’s hope 2022’s She-Hulk gives us the amount of Bruce Banner we need before we end up giving him our farewells.
