Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness turned the strongest Avenger on Earth into the most powerful villain. WandaVision paved the ground for her to go crazy as she got her hands on the Darkhold. This book empowered her to take on the strongest superheroes. But after watching the movie, people questioned exactly how Captain Marvel lost against Scarlet Witch so easily?

The Scarlet Witch wreaked havoc upon the Multiverse in Doctor Strange 2. It wasn’t just the sorcerers of Earth 616 that died at her hands. She killed people across the Multiverse. First, she caused the death of Defender Strange at the beginning of the film. Then she began to Dreamwalk into Dimension-838. By possessing the Wanda variant of this Earth, she barged into the Illuminati Headquarters. And then it was bye-bye hypocrites for almost their entire team. The Ultron sentries were obviously no match for her.
Blackagar Boltagon was proud of his ability to blow people up with his voice. And Wanda made him blow up his own head! Then Reed Richards, who had the biggest brain in the room also got his head blown up after Wanda turned his body into noodles. Captain Carter thought she could do it all day. But she couldn’t, as Wanda sliced her with her own shield! But the most surprising moment came when Wanda battled Captain Marvel, the Defender of the Cosmos. She was the strongest member of the team. And she was pretty confident that the Illuminati will be able to handle Strange’s, little witch. Her battle with Wanda was the longest of all. But it was still over pretty soon.
In her defense, she thought that Wanda’s strength was just Age of Ultron level. You see, Vision was probably never created in this Universe. So, Wanda never went through his loss. The events of Infinity War and WandaVision never happened. She probably never even lost Pietro because Ultron was successfully created. She may have conceived Billy and Tommy naturally and lived as a happy mom who didn’t become the Scarlet Witch. That’s why Captain Marvel was so overconfident about taking her on. She underestimated what was coming for the Illuminati and lost easily.
We’ve always wondered who is stronger between the Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel. And Doctor Strange 2 gave us a definitive answer to this question. But still, you’ve got to wonder how exactly did Scarlet Witch defeat Captain Maria without any fuss. Along with enhanced strength, Captain Marvel has got enhanced durability as well. Earth 616’s Captain Marvel took a head butt from Thanos and did not even flinch. So how come 838’s Captain Marvel died after being crushed by a statue? Considering her power levels, the pillar should have broken into pieces instead! And Maria should have survived. But that didn’t happen because of what Wanda did to her.
Apparently, when Captain Maria and Variant Wanda were twirling in the air, Wanda actually absorbed her Tesseract-powered energy. That’s how she became a squishable being whose body is just as strong as an average human. So, the Scarlet Witch even used Captain Marvel’s powers against her. Back in Endgame, Captain Marvel did not flinch when Thanos hit her because at that very moment, she was absorbing energy from the Infinity Gauntlet. Absorbing energy is one of her key abilities.
But on this occasion, Wanda played a reverse Uno card on her, and Maria died being crushed by the statue. Over time, the Scarlet Witch has become extremely smart as well. As I’ve mentioned, she used everyone’s specialties against them. And she did all these bare feet in her mom’s jeans! Killing Charles Xavier during his telepathic connection was a crazy power move don’t you think? The Illuminati made the mistake of not listening to Doctor Strange and underestimating her. And they paid the price within minutes!
While Scarlet Witch has proven to be the strongest of all, I believe that Earth 616’s Captain Marvel would have fared better against her. She may have still lost. But she would have known what she was dealing with. So unlike Captain Maria, Captain Carol wouldn’t have dived headfirst into battling the Scarlet Witch. But I guess this Darkhold-powered Scarlet Witch would still have won. She truly is the strongest being on Earth-616 for now. And it’ll be interesting to see when Marvel brings her back.
