Despite being a Disney, thus a supposedly kid-friendly, property, Marvel has featured some brutal deaths. And they took this brutal violence to the next level in their latest entry. These deaths have been so brutal that some people are even asking the execs to change their rating. And to think this is from the same company that gave us Toy Story and Cars for kids! Here are the top 10 of the most brutal MCU deaths that happened in all phases.
10. PIETRO MAXIMOFF (AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON)
Introducing a character, making the audience love him, and then killing them, all in the span of one movie is one of the oldest tricks in the book. And MCU is no stranger to this filmmaking trick. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, we are introduced to the newest Avengers recruits, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. They both enter the war against Ultron as the Avengers but both of them don’t make out.
During the last scenes of the Sokovia Battle, in his last attempt to kill the Avengers, Ultron opens fire on Hawkeye. And Quicksilver was quick to use himself as a human shield to protect Hawkeye and the kid he ran to save. Ultron’s multiple rounds of fires instantly kill Pietro who dies with a cold look in his eyes. This was, hands down, one of the most brutal deaths to ever be featured in the MCU.
9. LOKI(AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR)
The God of Mischief, dying after failing his last trick. Sound poetic, isn’t it? Strangling Loki with his bare hands would have been enough, but Thanos had to go the extra mile to be sure. After all, it was LOKI. But then snapping his neck in front of the brother who just mended things with him, that was dark, especially for the MCU. For a long, long time, we kept reliving this death, until we finally realized that Loki will be returning in his Disney+ show. What makes this death 100 times worse is how far Loki had come in his journey to redemption. He went from a jealous brother to the Saviour of Asgard. And now, he is again the 2012 Loki! His next meeting with Thor will be heartbreaking, I can tell you that!
8. HOWARD & MARIA STARK (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR)
The deaths that made our favorite character go wild on our other favorite character! The scene that made us believe that it was, in fact, a Civil War. When Steve, Bucky, and Tony came to know what happened to Tony’s parents, that was the movie’s defining moment. And God was it a brutal one! The way we see Bucky making Howard Stark crash his car and ultimately kill him by bashing his head in with his bare fists. And then killing his wife by strangling her, explained how intensely would he had been trained to do that without even flinching. It was enough to scare the little kids in the theatres for a while. And to think that this was one of the few.
7. TONY STARK (AVENGERS: ENDGAME)
I don’t even know where to start with describing his death. The most selfish person on the team sacrificed himself to save trillions. This was the biggest moment in the first three phases for a lot of reasons. It represented 11 years of storytelling, for starters. It was a destiny fulfilled for the most beloved character of the MCU. And that character deserved a lot more than dying without even saying goodbye to his precious daughter. But what made everyone in the audience cry was the way he died- Badly burnt and lying in a ditch. He did not deserve to die but he deserves this position on the list! Well, MCU hasn’t shown mercy to the Starks, has it? Just hope Morgan gets a happier ending.
6. THE FLAG-SMASHER, NICO (THE FALCON & THE WINTER SOLDIER)
You can’t call yourself a John Walker-hater if you don’t remember him killing the Flag Smasher, Nico. The way he repeatedly bludgeoned him with his vibranium shield until it was dripping with his blood. 80 years of legacy, gone in just 10 seconds! And to think that we almost felt sorry for him for hating him so much! Some could argue that his reaction would be justified by his best friend’s death, but going against everything he stood for can not be forgiven. Moreover, it wasn’t even that little kid who killed Lemar, it was Karli! It was a brutal scene, even for adults, and deserves a spot on this list!
5. THE DECAPITATION OF THANOS (ENDGAME)
Not to sound like a villain, but he had it coming, don’t you agree? Thanos was a genocidal maniac who had visited multiple planets in the cosmos and killed half their population, all in the name of balance. And dying only once in the movie didn’t feel enough to the directors. So they formulated this amazing scene where we see an ultimate showdown between the Avengers and Thanos. And this scene is ended by Thor swinging his ax and decapitating Thanos, leaving fans in a mystery as to who will they be facing for the majority of the movie.
4. THE LIBRARIAN AT KAMAR-TAJ (DOCTOR STRANGE)
Doctor Strange made his debut in the MCU in 2016 with his solo film. And we knew that the movie will be brutally good just after watching the first scene. The scene we are talking about is where we see Kaecilius breaking into Kamar-Taj’s library with his associates. And then he has to go through the librarian to get to the Book of Cagliostro, which used to call upon Dormammu. The scene may have been insignificant if it hadn’t been for the librarian’s brutal death. Kaecilius hanged him up and then decapitated him, all in a matter of seconds. Hence, making it one of the most brutal MCU deaths on-screen. We knew at that moment that MCU has created a ruthless villain.
3. PROFESSOR CHARLES XAVIER (DOCTOR STRANGE 2)
I think now it is safe to say that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the most brutal movie in the MCU. And MCU has shown the deaths of trillions (but not on-screen). And the next three spots are reserved for them. We know that no movie might ever be able to top the murder scenes of the Illuminati at the hands of Wanda. Starting with the senior member of the society, Charles Xavier who made the dire mistake of going into Wanda’s mind. The following scenes were so chilly that we couldn’t even scream. The way Wanda releases a red smoke and then emerges from it just to snap the Professor’s neck. It was so brutal that it left us on the verge of crying with pain.
2. CAPTAIN CARTER (DOCTOR STRANGE 2)
This list can not be completed without the addition of Captain Carter’s death in it. First introduced in the first episode of Disney+’s What If…?, Captain Carter was the version of Captain America if Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter had taken the supersoldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. Fans immediately fell in love because of her charismatic portrayal. And it was the reason that Marvel even adopted her character into live-action in the new film. But unfortunately, she died as soon as she debuted in the live-action. She tried to go toe to toe with Wanda who didn’t even give her a chance to win. After saying her iconic I can do this line, Carter throws her shield which ricochets because of Wanda’s magic, and goes clean through Carter’s body, disassembling her in two pieces. If you think this was brutal, wait for the next one!
1. BLACK BOLT (DOCTOR STRANGE 2)
The King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt, was one of the fan-favorite additions to the Earth-838’s Illuminati. But this group vanished faster than it appeared. And the first one to go was Black Bolt, who let out high-frequency waves every time he spoke through his mouth. But what if he had no mouth?! That’s exactly what Wanda played on(after Mr. Fantastic gave him the clue! Pretty stupid for the most intelligent man on Earth) when she made her mouth disappear. And when he tried to speak, the waves reflected back towards the brain. Unfortunately, it made his brain into a slime. Nasty, huh? And this scene is at the top without showing a single drop of blood!
