The MCU Reboot Theory Could Become a Reality After Doctor Strange 2

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might end up proving to be one of the biggest projects to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years. The movie has a lot of interesting details that fans have been able to discover based on the trailer. One of the most exciting bits about the movie has to be the fact that it will deal with the multiversal chaos that we got a hint of in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This might end up making some rather interesting changes to the MCU and there are even theories regarding this already at work. The multiversal chaos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse oF Madness could pave the way for the MCU reboot theory to become a reality.

Multiverse

We have been getting hints of the Multiverse theory for quite a long time now in the MCU. The very first time it was mentioned was when Professor Erik Selvig talks about the concept while having some effects of the tesseract in Thor: The Dark World. Here we saw a reference is made with the words “616 universe” on his blackboard. This is a clear nod to Earth-616, which is known as the main universe in the Marvel comics. Later we would end up getting some more context to this in Doctor Strange when the Ancient One mentions the multiple realities. She says, “This universe is only one of an infinite number. Worlds without end.”

Things are only kept as references and Easter eggs in the Infinity Saga and there was no clear reference to how the concept would be dealt with here. But things would take an interesting turn following the time heist in Avengers: Endgame. When Bruce Banner goes to get the Time Stone from the Ancient One, she tells him about an alternate reality that they would be creating by displacing the stones from their timeline. Though it was not a direct reference, WandaVision gave us a tease of the concept of Multiverse with Evan Peters appearing as Quicksilver in the series. The actor had previously portrayed the character in the Fox X-Men universe. Later, Loki would give us some idea regarding how the alternate timelines work with specific terms about the different renditions of the same character being called variants.

MCU Reboot Theory

For a while around the end of the Infinity Saga, it felt the MCU was heading for an end and thus certain characters were being dropped off. Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow left the narrative and even the actors confirmed that they might not be appearing anytime soon. Phase 4 has seen some interesting developments being made to the franchise with new characters taking on the mantle of some of the past major characters. Soon we will get to see Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster wielding the Mjolnir and thus taking on the mantle of Thor. At the same time, Captain America’s mantle was passed over to Falcon aka Sam Wilson and Hawkeye has Kate Bishop as a clear candidate to take over his mantle.

The Multiverse Could Pave The Way For A Reboot

The very first effect of the multiverse saw the appearance of Spider-Men from the past Sony films appear in No Way Home. We also got to witness the villains from those movies appear with some interesting updates to their characters. Fans were so pleased with this that they actually wanted to see more of these characters than the appearance they made in this movie. There are major rumors making rounds regarding some projects for Electro and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in the MCU or Sony Universe. This clearly means that there is a certain hype for these characters in the franchise and this will allow for a chance to explore narratives that haven’t been explored before.

Doctor Strange 2 Can Allow For This Reboot

We saw that the Disney+ animated series What If…? was a massive success and fans surely wanted more from the individual narratives that were brought in. With some of these characters appearing in Doctor Strange 2 we can clearly see how the sequel can actually pique the interest in the franchise for the fans. There was a major theory surrounding the idea that the movie might introduce mutants to the franchise and this will actually work if Patrick Stewart ends up reprising his role as Charles Xavier in the movie. This will mark the appearance of a lot of new characters in the franchise something that wasn’t actually expected by the fans. Each of the characters introduced might end up having some major role to play in the future of the MCU projects.

MCU reboot theory

A lot of endless possibilities open up with the Multiverse in the MCU. We get a chance to explore new narratives while older characters continue to reprise their roles. This doesn’t actually break the narrative but ends up making for a rather exciting part of the franchise. Doctor Strange 2 might lay the bricks for some of the biggest changes in the franchise.
