How Long Did Thanos Look For the Infinity Stones Before Infinity War?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe set up the arc for the Infinity Saga from the very first initial projects. Thanos’ narrative is something that has been worked upon from the very time the Avengers gathered to face a common enemy. With each movie following that we would get an idea of how the narrative would progress with hints of Thanos here and there. Even though the character would appear in a lot of the projects, we would only get a clear idea of his plans with Avengers: Infinity War. The appearance of the Mad Titan over the years in the MCU makes us ponder the question, “How long did Thanos look for the Infinity Stones?”

Thanos

This character would first be hinted at the existence of the Infinity Gauntlet in 2011’s Thor. Each of the Infinity Stones would be spread across the MCU with certain narratives built around them. Thanos himself would end up having a cameo in the post-credits scene for The Avengers hinting at the fact that he wants to face the heroes himself. Later we would get a proper look at this villain when he would appear properly in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 with the plans of acquiring the stones first being hinted at.

This movie would actually tell us the narrative behind the Infinity Stones with the Collector being the means of exposition. Thanos would actually use the likes of Loki and Ronan the Accuser to get hold of the Infinity Stones. Each appearance for the character actually went ahead in motivating him to take things into his own hands for action. We only got to see him properly going ahead with the plans following the events of Thor: Ragnarok. But it won’t be surprising if Thanos actually had been working upon acquiring the stones before we first got a chance to see him.

Even though Thanos is the primary antagonist for the Infinity Saga, there is a lot we don’t know about him. In fact, there are some new details that will probably be explored soon in the franchise. This is because we got to see his brother appear in a cameo in the post-credits scene for Eternals. But based on what we know about him, Thanos had some interesting plans for the universe. When he got to witness his home planet Titan get destroyed, he went ahead on a quest to balance the universe. This was in order to make sure that no one else has to go through what Titan went through.

The very first hint of this plan was when he went to Gamora’s planet Zen-Whoberi. Here we saw that Thanos was actually executing some of these plans by killing half of the planet’s population with his minions. This was actually the moment where Thanos was going through with his plans manually so we could say he wasn’t probably aware of the Stones. Since Gamora was 10 years old around this time, Thanos might have spent around 15-20 years looking for the Infinity Stones before the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Thanos’ arc was dealt with in Avengers: Infinity War and one can say the movie was primarily set around his character. There was some surprise over how the character was given a major amount of development in a single movie. We might not get a chance to see the character anymore but his brother Eros might actually give some interesting insight into his arc. Not setting a solo project for Thanos actually might have worked as the character ended up getting an interesting arc with the ending of the Infinity Saga.
