Avengers: Endgame Almost Included This Agents of SHIELD Character

Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame marked the culmination of the Infinity Saga. This allowed for the end of a lot of narratives that were picked right from the beginning of the franchise. We got to see a lot of characters we had seen earlier in the franchise make an appearance in the movie. Fans actually expected that we would even get to see the characters from the Marvel shows also making an appearance in the movie. While the Netflix shows only showed hints of the MCU, fans expected that characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to appear in the project. Based on recent updates, an Agents of SHIELD Character was set to make an appearance in Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel TV Projects

With the success of the Marvel projects on the big screen, small screen adaptations followed. The very first of these adaptations that came with the success of the MCU was Agents of SHIELD. This series even had characters from MCU making their appearances including Agent Coulson as the lead and some minor appearances from characters like Nick Fury and Maria Hill. It was clearly assumed that this series is actually a part of the franchise with appearances from the characters. Other shows like Agent Carter, Runaways, and Cloak and Dagger followed. Even though these shows reference some of the MCU events they weren’t considered canon to the MCU. Things took an interesting turn when James D’Arcy reprised his Agent Carter role as Edwin Jarvis in Avengers: Endgame.

This would end up being one of the first appearances from a Marvel TV character onto the big screen. Meanwhile, Netflix had managed to create its own Marvel universe of characters that included shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Punisher. This would end up giving us some of the best adaptations of some of the most awesome Marvel characters. Fans wanted these characters to appear in the as the shows also made slight hints of being a part of the franchise. But it would only be with the appearance of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the MCU that we would get to see two other small-screen characters make it into the big screen. According to the latest development, another TV show character could have had his appearance in the franchise.

Agents of SHIELD Character Cut From Endgame

The Cantina Creative VFX studio revealed some of the new looks from their work on Avengers: Endgame. Their prime focus in these designs was on the Time Heist sequence from the movie. One of the designs amongst these featured Agents of SHIELD villain Daniel Whitehall next to Red Skull and Armin Zola on the theft plans for the Tesseract. It seems that this cut design would be amongst the ten that Cantina Creative made for Endgame. Only two of these digital panels would end up making it into the movie.

Agents of SHIELD Character

Actor Reed Diamond portrayed the character reacted to this information in absolute shock. He tweeted:

Wow! Now, the mystery of why they called to check my availability has been solved. Thank you! …oh…and…Hail Hydra!

Plans For Shows Being Made Canon

Marvel’s The Defenders

This might not be surprising as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had talked about involving the shows in the MCU. In an interview with Collider, Feige had stated:

I think it’s extremely impressive what Netflix has done and it will be the same answer I always give, which is, “It all depends on timing.” It all depends on how to do it because I don’t think what anybody wants to do is have such important characters show up for one second. Black Panther and Spider-Man to me are the high bar in Civil War of how you can bring in new characters into something. Vision and Ultron, Wanda and Pietro in Ultron. And it takes a lot of screentime, and it takes a lot of work. Infinity War has a lot of people in it already. So it just depends on how we could figure it out.

Things might be taking an interesting turn now that the characters have made it into the franchise. With the latest developments, we might actually end up seeing a lot more of the characters in the MCU as the franchise has now worked in shows into their narrative with the Disney+ streaming service. Daredevil is already set to appear in his own MCU project with reports of a reboot to his series under development.
