Doctor Strange might be amongst the characters who were introduced quite later in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This doesn’t change the fact that the character has managed to establish itself as one of the most important characters in the franchise. His presence during the events around the end of the Infinity Saga ensured that he is a rather significant character. This also continues to persist with his involvement in the events of the Multiverse as the next big project seems to show that he will try to put control in the events of the chaos that unfolds due to the Multiverse. We’ve got some new Doctor Strange 2 plot details which tell us about the hierarchy of the Avengers and Strange’s place in the team after Tony and Steve are gone.
Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness
The teaser for the Doctor Strange sequel was shown in the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. This was probably an indication of the fact that we will be getting to see more of the multiversal chaos that we saw in No Way Home unfold. There has been a lot of mystery surrounding the MCU projects and the same can be said about Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness. The teaser did end up providing some hint towards what the movie has in store for us as it showed that Doctor Strange goes to Wanda for help. While the movie is going to be a solo venture for the character, it seems that it will definitely give us some idea regarding the status of the titular character amongst the heroes.
Doctor Strange 2 Plot Details Through Synopsis
The official Japanese website for Marvel Studios has shared a synopsis for Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness. According to the synopsis:
The door of the multiverse, full of mystery and madness, opens.
Now that Iron Man and Captain America have left after a fierce battle in Avengers: Endgame, former genius surgeon and the strongest magician of them all, Doctor Strange, is expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers. However, using his magic to manipulate time and space at will with a forbidden spell that is considered the most dangerous has opened the door to a mysterious madness called ‘the Multiverse.’ To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange…
Director Sam Raimi, who has expressed a unique world view, will captivate the whole world with overwhelming scale and unprecedented visual experience that will transcend time and space!
The Cosmic Circus translated the synopsis and according to this translation, a very important part of it indicates that Doctor Strange will be playing “an active role as a central figure” with the Avengers’ roster. There is also some clear indication that he will be continuing with some of the past havoc that he wreaked in No Way Home with the botched spell. The most important line in this ends up being the fact that his biggest enemy in the universe will end up being himself or rather a version of himself.
Doctor Strange Leading The Avengers?
From what we have witnessed so far in Marvel, Strange has been a character who doesn’t team up with the other heroes. Even if he does end up asking for help he goes to those who have been with him during his first outing in the MCU. But the events of Infinity War and Endgame have clearly made sure that he might be playing a significant role in the future of MCU. Most of the leading characters of Avengers have either moved on or seem to be replaced and the only character who has some higher status amongst the heroes seems to be Doctor Strange himself.
But it is surprising that there will be such a significant transition in terms of the character in the MCU considering he has been the reason for the ongoing chaos in the franchise. He is not even the Sorcerer Supreme anymore as this title has now been given to Wong. This seems to be something quite common for the MCU as the previous leadership holder Iron Man has also been responsible for some of the worst enemies of MCU.
Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness will be released in theaters worldwide on May 6, 2022.
