Hawkeye Series: Why Hawkeye Is Not An Avenger Any More?

Hawkeye is going to make a comeback post the events of the Infinity Saga’s ending with his own Disney Plus series, Hawkeye. Fans are excited to see what side of this character we will get to explore as previously we only got hints of his story without any major focus on him. Each of the Disney shows has been giving us an insight into the characters that we have been witnessing with each of the previous projects in MCU. Hawkeye might provide us with some of the answers to what is up with the Avengers initiative since he was closely attached even before the initiative was taken into action. Let’s take a look at why Hawkeye is not an Avenger during the events of the Disney Plus series Hawkeye.

Hawkeye Series

The first trailer for the Hawkeye show gives us an idea that the show will be based around the time of Christmas set in New York. We get to see Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, spending time with his kids. He was able to get back his family thanks to Hulk’s in Avengers: Endgame. The series is expected to show us a lot about the character that was hardly touched in his previous appearances in the other MCU projects. Some of the essential things that it might take us towards could include his origin and what he was up to during his run as Ronin. These things are something fans have been trying to explore and get a look at for a long time now.

Former Avenger

But one major development that the series might answer is the question of why he is not an Avenger anymore. Marvel Studios have confirmed that Clint Barton is not an Avenger during the events of Hawkeye. This might come as a shock to various fans considering he was one of the original Avengers who was present ever since the Avengers initiative began. He first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor. The official synopsis for the series calls him a “former Avenger” and that has us wondering why he might have retired from the team.

Why Hawkeye Is Not An Avenger?

One of the primary reasons that Hawkeye might have left the Avengers has to be because of his family. We were first introduced to his family in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, where we got an insight into his world. This was something that was not seen for any of the other Avengers. He even retires from his part in saving the world to focus on his family in order to spend more time with his family.

During the events of Captain America: Civil War, he makes a comeback in order to take sides with Captain America. Later, he loses his entire family to Thanos’s snap as shown in the opening scenes of Avengers: Endgame. We can clearly see from the trailer of the series that he intends to spend more time with his family until Kate Bishop shows up.

Another possibility is the troubled time the character went through after losing his family. During the five years following the snap, Hawkeye decided to wipe the streets clean of all the people he considered worthy of being taken instead of his family due to the snap. While the Avengers hardly mention this period or his actions during this time, we can be sure that it still haunts him. The sins that he did during this period are gonna play a major role in his arc in the series as seen from the trailer. And added to that is the death of Natasha who had remained a very close friend of Clint till the very end. Remaining as an Avenger could have easily messed with Clint’s mental and emotional condition.

Hawkeye will be debut on 24 November 2021 with weekly episodes in the Disney Plus streaming service. The series also stars Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, and Alaqua Cox as Echo amongst others. Florence Pugh is also set to reprise her role as Yelena Belova from Black Widow in the series.
