WB Should Greenlight A DCEU Assassins Team Up Movie

With the massive success of The Suicide Squad both critically and amongst fans, we can only ask for more from the DCEU. Although the DCEU already has a lot of projects planned. We have already seen three different mercenaries with almost similar character arcs appear in the DCEU. But what if there was a project that suggested a possible team-up amongst them. We are indeed talking about a DCEU Assassins team-up movie with – Bloodsport, Deadshot, and Deathstroke.

The new Suicide Squad film has given hope in the direction of DCEU making a comeback to a good critical response. As we can see the Warner Bros. is taking into consideration to make individual character-based projects. The characters of Bloodsport, Deadshot, and Deathstroke have been introduced in different projects of the DCEU. Let’s explore how much the characters have been developed.

Deadshot

DCEU Assassins Team-up Movie

We were introduced to Deadshot in the 2017 Suicide Squad as portrayed by Will Smith. Though the movie didn’t treat the characters equally well, Deadshot was given quite a strong storyline worth an emotional impact. His drive for his work and the ideology that as long as he is paid he will do his work without showing any mercy, except for women and children. At the very introductory scene, he uses the last minutes before the kill to increase his pay by putting himself in a position of more power.

In the movie, he is given a very tough and gritty portrayal while at the same time ringing in a bit of sarcasm and humor. He doesn’t bend very easily according to someone’s will but rather has a conscience and utilizes that to make major decisions. He is good at what he does though. Described as a master marksman he proves his words throughout the movie. It’ll be interesting to find out about his whereabouts during The Suicide Squad. But I feel that Will Smith’s Deadshot could have a pretty cool team up with —

Bloodsport

Bloodsport was introduced in the new Suicide Squad movie. Robert DuBois a.k.a Bloodsport is one of the incarnations of the character. It’s quite a surprise to see a character like him appear in the movie considering he is not very popular amongst comic book fans. He is remembered for some of his exploits which do include shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet.

Idris Elba portrayed the character in a wonderful manner. Even though much of the character does resemble the Deadshot as both of them are sympathetic towards their daughter. Also both the characters were much saner members of Task Force X and did end up portraying a leadership-like figure. Fun fact, Idris Elba was originally cast as Deadshot in the James Gunn feature but then Warner Bros. and Gunn decided to re-write his character to Bloodsport. This was done as a means to allow Will Smith to return in future movies.

Deathstroke

DCEU Assassins Team-up Movie

Deathstroke is the least appeared character in the DCEU. His character was only reduced to cameos in both the Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. But each of those cameos gave us a very good idea about the character and how it would work out in the DCEU over time.

While one doesn’t know which one of the Justice League movies’ will be considered canon, it can be said that his appearance in both didn’t have much difference except for some tiny details. He is another mercenary but he doesn’t always work for payment but is also ready to work if the target is a person he has a personal enmity for. Just like he was interested in an opportunity to work with Lex Luthor to get an opportunity to kill Batman.

Possibility of a DCEU Assassins Team-up Movie

As we can see a lot is left to be explored for all three of these characters. There is a chance that Will Smith might return as Deadshot again. Idris Elba has shown interest in a Bloodsport prequel that would explore the story about Bloodsport shooting Superman with the Kryptonite bullet. Consequently putting him on a hospital bed. And as for Deathstroke, he deserves a movie to allow us to explore a lot more of him than we have gotten to see so far.

Recently, concept art showing Deathstroke leading the Task Force X was released from an HBO Max featurette titled Way of the Gunn. The concept art shows Deathstroke leading Peacemaker, Polka Dot Man, Ratcatcher 2, and King Shark through the waters post landing on the beaches of Corto Maltese. These plans were based on existing storylines that were supposed to be explored. One of these included Deathstroke battling with Will Smith’s Deadshot in a probable Suicide Squad sequel. While another plan considered a solo movie about Deathstroke.

This is the right time for the grouping of all three of these mercenaries. Maybe the likes of Black Manta and Peacemaker could also be added into the mix. I guess we’ll have to wait and see about that. Anyway, this Assassins team-up could be directed by the Gunn with dark undertones while at the same time Snyder may helm it with his vision of the DCEU. Or maybe we could have a few master action movie directors like David Leitch or Chad Stahelski. But these plans might never come to fruition considering DCEU is moving away from the SnyderVerse, and WB probably wants nothing to do with Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke at least.
