New Footage Of The Batman Released At CinemaCon

With the end of the year coming up, everyone is preparing for the cinematic events of the upcoming year or two. With many movies being postponed for later released people are excited to see what to expect from them. While many of these postponed movies will release later this year, others have been shifted to the start of the next year. Under any circumstance, this time of the year will be filled with the first looks and teasers of these movies. Amongst these was the release of new footage of The Batman at CinemaCon.

Previous Interpretations

Batman created by Bob Kane has seen many portrayals in cinema both live-action and animated. Amongst the live-action Batmen, the most successful ones being Michael Keaton’s and Christian Bale’s portrayal of the caped crusader. Michael Keaton’s version directed by Tim Burton is very much responsible for a massive influence in dealing with the superhero genre. The dark take allowed for the opportunity of bringing some of the darker comic book storylines onto the screen. The latter much recent adaptation by Christopher Nolan proved to be a massive success both for the critics and the fans as it was a lot different from the world of Batman we have been used to. He created a trilogy with this character that stands amongst the best superhero movies ever made.

Various other adaptations have also been made after that including Zack Snyder’s version as portrayed by Ben Affleck. This was supposed to be based on the much darker comic books such as The Dark Knight Returns. The interpretations were a part of the DCEU and appeared in multiple movies but didn’t get a solo feature. The movies even though successful amongst fans, didn’t fare well with the critics. A solo feature was planned to be directed by Affleck himself but that later evolved into The Batman.

The Batman Featurette

Warner Bros. screened the new footage related to The Batman at CinemaCon. The footage included some of the behind the scene clips related to the movie. Though not a lot of the footage was new and included some moments from the teaser that was released last year. It seems that fans are excited by whatever glance they could get at the project considering its delay in release.

The featurette presented opens with Bruce Wayne, played by Robert Pattinson walking through Gotham amidst absolute chaos with an ominous score in the background. In the BTS footage of the making of the movie, Pattinson was explaining his portrayal. “For some reason, Batman has always stood as one of the major characters of the 20th century,” he said. According to him, this is a “radically different” version of the hero compared to the other adaptations. Matt Reeves, director of the movie, promises an “emotional Batman movie.” He adds that the movie isn’t an origin story but it will follow a very early version of Batman.

The Batman is inspired by the Batman: Year One comic by the legendary creators Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Other scenes from the footage include Batman beating up the Gotham city goons awash in a red light along with other actions like explosion and chaos. One of the most exciting parts included an extended look at the Batman and Catwoman fight that was initially teased in the teaser trailer for the movie. Patterson says, “He’s really working out this rage: All the fights seem very personal.” Here Batman is also shown using a wide range of weapons. Another exciting first look was a glance at Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, with a vest and white hair. The Batmobile is also shown with flames emitting from the exhaust. The featurette ends with Matt Reeves saying, “We can’t wait for you to see The Batman in theaters next year.”

There is a lesser chance of this trailer being made public right away. The trailer could be revealed in the DC FanDome 2021 in October as a part of the presentations for The Batman. As this detail gives a certain excitement fans have to wait for the trailer to be made available. Here’s to hoping the movie doesn’t face any more delays. The cast for this movie includes Paul Dano as the yet to be seen Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, and Colin Firth as The Penguin.

The Batman is scheduled to release on March 4, 2022. The other confirmed upcoming films from DC’s slate include Black Adam on July 29, 2022, The Flash on November 4, 2022, Aquaman 2 on December 16, 2022, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theatres on June 2, 2023. DC also has films like a Superman Reboot, Batgirl, Static Shock, Green Lantern Corps. and Blue Beetle under development. But those films are undated till now.
