Many other studios have jumped into the competition with movies ranging from revivals to new takes on existing franchises. Warner Bros. released the Matrix 4 title and first look in the form of a trailer during CinemaCon.

The Matrix Movies

The Matrix has had a massive influence in cinema ever since its release in 1999. The movies were the talk of the town during their releases as people from all across the world awaited them with much anticipation. The movies themselves picked the best ideas and cinematic moments from cinema all across the world including anime and created a tribute to them. The technicalities behind the movies have revolutionized VFX and CGI for the movies that came after it. It’s no wonder that there is excitement in the air regarding where Lana Wachoswki will take the franchise now.

The original storyline followed the idea of a computer-generated dream world that is designed to keep humans under control. The humans are kept sedated and they live a virtual life. The protagonist Neo is selected as a candidate to wake up and use the virtual world for the benefit of humans. He awakens in Morpheus’s ship where the latter explains to him that there exists a man who was born right in the Matrix with powers to change anything there. By the end of the movie, we discover that Neo is this superior being amongst them.

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow finally gave an official release to the title of this highly anticipated sequel at CinemaCon. They confirmed the upcoming film to be titled The Matrix: Resurrections. The previous movies were titled The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions. The fans present there were also lucky to get a look at the trailer for the movie. The trailer included footage of a making-of clip that was played before the trailer itself. This hints at the fact that a trailer for the movie might come out on YouTube sometime soon similar to what happened with Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Matrix 4 Trailer Description

Deadline confirmed that the visuals begin with a conversation between Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, and his therapist, played by Neil Patrick Harris as a new addition to the cast, in a futuristic San Francisco. It appears as if Neo is trapped in a very humdrum world very much similar to the world we saw in the original 1999 movie. He is lost in his surroundings and isn’t able to comprehend his existence properly. One of the scenes shows Trinity, portrayed by Carrie Anne Moss, bumping into Neo at a Cafe but the prior has no recollection of the latter. Another scene showed a younger version of Morpheus handing Neo a red pill.

The making of clips showed Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss talking about the movies. “The first Matrix felt like something beyond yourself… You’ll hear the sentence ‘The Matrix changed my life.’ I say, ‘Thank you, it changed mine too,’” Reeves was quoted as saying in the clips. “I never thought ‘Dodge this’ was going to be a big deal,” said Moss, referencing the bullet-time sequence from the original movie.

Cast Of Characters

While Laurence Fishburne won’t be returning for his role as the fan-favorite Morpheus some of the other characters are making their return with the original actors. Jada Pinkett-Smith, Daniel Bernhardt, and Lambert Wilson are all supposed to return to their original roles. Many new actors have also been added to the cast including Watchmen’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, and Christina Ricci. Lana Wachowski has returned to the role of the director whereas Lilly Wachowski has chosen to do different projects at this stage of her career.

The Matrix: Resurrections will see a December 22 release.
