MCU’s culmination of 23 stories ended in 2019 with Avengers: Endgame. Since the beginning of 2008, MCU introduced a large number of superheroes, villains, and attractive side characters for all of us. A lot of other characters were also teased. Almost every character appeared in Avengers: Endgame. A few of them were killed on screen and the other will continue their MCU journey. Now since the film had an ensemble cast, let’s look at the characters with the least screen time in Avengers: Endgame, and the most screen time.
Characters With the Most Screen Time in Avengers: Endgame
1. Iron Man/Tony Stark
Tony Stark aka Iron Man is now considered as the emblem of MCU. The character’s death in Avengers: Endgame left all of us in tears. Not just in this film, but he got more screen space in every MCU movie where he appeared before that. The character retired after the Snap and settled with Pepper Potts and his daughter. But the one reason he went back to fight is to revive Peter Parker, who was almost like a son for him. It was Tony Stark who put his final blow on Thanos and killed him. But unfortunately, the use of the Infinity Gauntlet killed him. The character covered 34 minutes and 45 seconds of the entire film.
2. Hulk/Bruce Banner
Bruce Banner may not understand the difference between good and evil when he turns to Hulk. He was subdued by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War despite being so strong. He was not able to transform into Hulk after that event which brought some comedy elements on the screen. He used the Hulkbuster armor to defeat the enemies. In Avengers: Endgame, we saw a new form of Hulk as Professor Hulk who has overcome his fear of Thanos. He helped the other Avengers in planning the time heist and bring back the Infinity Stones. Bruce Banner appeared for 20 minutes in the film.
3. Captain America/Steve Rogers
Steve Rogers survived Thanos’ Snap. He was also a part of the time heist where the Avengers had to retrieve the Infinity Stones. He traveled to 2012’s New York and had to fight an alternate version of himself. He realizes he must travel back in time to retrieve the Space Stone. He arrives at a S.H.I.E.L.D. military base in 1970 where he encounters his love, Peggy Carter. The Avengers defeat Thanos and return the Infinity Stones in their rightful times and places. But Steve decides to fulfill his love’s wish for dance and decides to stay in the past. Steve Rogers appears for 30 minutes and 45 seconds in the film.
4. Hawkeye/Clint Barton
The opening sequence of Avengers: Endgame was a scene where Clint Barton aka Hawkeye was training his daughter in archery. The character was absent in Infinity War. Here we saw that his family dies in the Snap. He eventually becomes a vigilante and starts murdering the criminals. Here we get to see a completely different Hawkeye. It is Natasha Romanoff who comes and promises him that he can resurrect his family with a time heist and reverse the damage done by Thanos. All this covers 18 minutes of Avengers: Endgame.
The Thor we got to see Avengers: Endgame was also completely different. He was defeated by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and he conjured a weapon through which he can kill Thanos. But Thanos’ Snap finished everything. He was seen in a depressed mood and considered himself to be responsible for everything. After killing Thanos on another planet, Thor started to live the life of a drunkard and became overweight. But he came back to help the Avengers. He met his deceased mother Frigga in the time heist and also recovered the Mjolnir. He handed the position of Asgard’s king to Valkyrie, joined the Guardians of the Galaxy for the next adventure and all this covers 21 minutes and 15 seconds of the film.
Characters With the Least Screen Time in Avengers: Endgame
1. Almost everyone at Tony Stark’s funeral
The epilogue of the film features a memorial to Tony Stark. Every character of the MCU can be seen in this scene and everyone who has featured in the previous MCU movies. But there are also a few characters who make their appearance in the film for the first time and pay their last respects to Tony Stark. It reveals that Nick Fury and Maria Hill are now alive. We can also see Harley Keener, the little boy mentored by Tony Stark in Iron Man 3. They appear for around 15 seconds but it shows the impact Tony Stark had on their lives.
2. Ned Leeds
Ned Leeds was Peter Parker’s best friend, introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He appeared in almost every MCU movie after that. The character also turned to dust with Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War. Towards the end of Avengers: Endgame, we get to see that Peter and Ned get together after five years. They remain high school juniors at Midtown School of Science and Technology and find each other in the school’s crowded hallways. This reunion lasts for around 15 seconds.
3. Queen Ramonda
Black Panther was the last film where we saw Queen Ramonda. She helped her son T’Challa to take on the throne of Wakanda after being defeated by Erik Killmonger. She was not seen in Avengers: Infinity War during the Battle of Wakanda and her children and Dora Milaje were defending the country against the army of Thanos. In Avengers: Endgame, Ramonda was still in Wakanda and was presiding regally over the kingdom. She is joined by T’Challa and Shuri and the country celebrates the reversal of the Snap and the return of the country’s king. The character got 15 seconds of screen time.
4. Dr. Jane Foster
Dr. Jane Foster is a character that has appeared only on a few occasions. The character was last seen in Thor: The Dark World where she saved London from Frost Beasts. Her name was mentioned in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok. But she never appeared in both films. She made a surprise appearance in Avengers: Endgame but only for 15 seconds. In the archival footage of Thor: The Dark World, Jane asks an Asgardian maiden for a pair of pants. Natalie Portman did not film any new footage for the scene and here the new thing was only her dialogue.
After Black Panther, M’Baku appeared in Avengers: Endgame. He joined the other Avengers in their battle against Thanos. He had little to no dialogue at all. But his presence was a treat for all the moviegoers. The character was originally going to have a bigger role in Avengers: Endgame. Actor Winston Duke, who plays the character said that the character had more action scenes in the final battle but they were cut for time and narrative clarity giving him only 15 seconds on screen.
