1. Nobody – $55 million
With Bob Odenkirk in the lead role, Nobody has received positive reviews and earned $55 million at the box office. He is playing the role of Hutch Mansell who is a mild-mannered father who is a nobody. When thieves break into his house, his world changes dramatically since he unlocks a primal part of his personality. It sets him down a dangerous path that forces him to save his family from a deadly adversary and his destructive tendencies.
2. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard – $62 million
Patrick Hughes’s The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is a follow-up to the 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard. It has earned $62 million at the box office. It has Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead roles. Bryce is forced to take action when Kincaid’s wild card wife Sonia emerges onto the scene. The three of them then get trapped in the dangerous plot of the terrorist mastermind Aristotle Papadopoulous and must save Europe from massive destruction.
3. Mortal Kombat – $83 million
The Mortal Kombat is one of the most successful video game franchises. This year, the franchise returned to the big screen with a New Line Cinema film adaptation after two previous films in the late 90s. Here, Cole Young is an MMA fighter who has to step up to defend the world from the warriors of the Outworld. The film has many fan-favorite characters like Sub-Zero, Jax. Sonya Blade, Kano and Liu Kang. The film has earned around $83 million at the box office.
4. Wrath of Man – $99 million
We have seen Jason Statham playing different types of roles in action movies. He appeared this year in Wrath of Man and it is his fourth collaboration with director Guy Ritchie. The film received positive reviews and earned $99 million at the worldwide box office. Statham plays the role of a cash truck driver named H from Los Angeles who steps up with deadly efficiency during an attempted robbery. His actions begin a chain reaction of events that uncover his checkered past and bring him under increasing scrutiny from FBI investigators.
5. Raya and the Last Dragon – $120 million
Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon is an action-adventure film in comparison to the themes of the other animated films. The film was released simultaneously in theatres along with Disney+ because of which it lost some amount of revenue. But still, it managed to collect $120 million at the box office. The movie is set in Kumandra, a land where dragons and humans have coexisted in harmony for many years. But when Drunn threatens the safety of the inhabitants, the dragons sacrifice themselves to protect humanity. 500 years later, a warrior named Raya sets out to locate the last dragon and end Drunn’s reign of terror.
6. Black Widow – $201 million
Marvel finally released a solo Black Widow movie after a long wait. It has Scarlett Johansson in the lead reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff and has grossed around $201 million. It follows the life of Natasha after the events of Captain America: Civil War. It explores the home to her surrogate family of the past. This includes Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov, and Rachel Weisz’s Melina Vostokoff. All of them team up together to take down the sinister Red Room once and for all.
7. A Quiet Place Part II – $280 million
A Quiet Place was one of the best horror movies of 2018. The second part was released this year after being postponed from the original release date of 2020. John Krasinki and Emily Blunt have returned with some new characters and the film has grossed $280 million at the box office. The film starts after the events of the first film and the remaining members of the Abbott family are forced to abandon their home and search for the survivors. Regan, Evelyn, Marcus, and the new baby find Emmett, a reclusive friend of the late Lee Abbott, and try to find a new safe place for their family.
8. Godzilla Vs. Kong – $452 million
After Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Legendary’s MonsterVerse brought both the creatures together in one film. Titled Godzilla Vs. Kong, the film collected $452 million at the box office and was also made available for streaming on HBO Max. After the defeat of King Ghidorah, Monarch’s team of scientists and a captured Kong delve into the Hollow Earth, the ancient home of the Titans. But they also invite the wrath of Godzilla, which starts a conflict to decide the fate of the Earth and includes more dangerous challengers waiting in the wings.
9. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train – $455 million
Demon Slayer is now the most popular new anime in production. The first season ended in 2019 and was followed by a theatrical release of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. The film has grossed $455 million at the box office and is now the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film of all time. The film starts after the events of the first season where Tanjiro, Nezujo, Insouke, and Zenitsu boarding a train, and many people have gone missing. They are joined by Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku and together they must face one of their most dangerous and challenging opponents.
10. F9: The Fast Saga – $546 million
The ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise is now the highest-grossing action film of 2021. Considering the success of the franchise, the film has collected $546 million at the box office. In this part, Dominic Toretto encounters his brother Jakob who joins the antagonist from the previous film, Cipher. The team then unite once again to stop the villains from being successful in their evil intentions and this time they are joined by Mia, Han, Sean Boswell, and Earl Hu.
