Why Loki Repeats A Line From The Avengers In His Disney+ Series

The new footage of Loki shows Tom Hiddleston repeating a line from 2012’s The Avengers. The reason is that this Loki is from 2012. When Avengers: Infinity War started with Thanos killing Loki, Marvel Studios teased that there would be no more resurrections this time for Loki. This was the plan during Avengers: Infinity War. But the introduction of Disney+ as an avenue for Marvel Cinematic Universe content changed everything completely.

When WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier dominated pop culture conversations, Loki was positioned to do the same with the return of his character to MCU. Loki’s return on Disney+ was accidentally set up in Avengers: Endgame. There we saw the Avengers traveling to 2012 and the events of The Avengers to get the Time Stone, Mind Stone, and Space Stone. But the Tesseract falls into Loki’s hands.

Loki used the Tesseract to avoid being captured by the Avengers. Now the character would continue his story after the mysterious Time Variance Authority come for him. This will also include a story that travels among the multiverse with a similar version of Loki. It is that version that has not spent some more time with the audiences.

Loki is based on the version of the character we saw in 2012’s The Avengers. He is not the Loki who died a hero in 2018. This explains why in the aforementioned TV spot, Loki is heard repeating a line from the first Avengers movie. The line is, “I am Loki and I’m burdened with glorious purpose.” On the basis of when the line is said and context clues given in other trailers, Loki repeats the line instantly after using the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame and before being taken away by TVA.

Originally, he said, “I am Loki of Asgard and I’m burdened with glorious purpose” at the start of the first Avengers movie after using the Tesseract to travel to the inside of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s base on Earth. It has been almost a decade since Loki said this. Barely any time has passed for this Loki. The time between his arrival on Earth and where Loki would begin is approximately only a few days. Loki repeating his old line is a reminder of how this Loki is completely different from the one who redeemed himself in Infinity War.

As seen in Loki‘s TV spot, he is still a villain and has a desire to rule any planet. Now he might be in a different universe and place in time when he reuses the same line on Disney+. But it should be an instant reminder to viewers that this is an alternate universe version of the trickster from 2012. Somewhere, it is funny to consider the possibility that “I am Loki of Asgard and I’m burdened with glorious purpose” is definitely his introductory saying.

Since he previously said this to Nick Fury and let him know who he is, he repeats it when he encounters some Mongolians and this is not a coincidence. He is trying to convey how he is above them and deserves to be their leader. If Loki shows the character or his variants across the multiverse attempting to conquer worlds, there is a chance that this line will be heard again and again throughout the series.

Loki is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and shares continuity with the other films of the franchise. It is scheduled to premiere on 11 June 2021 on Disney+. Loki will be a part of MCU’s Phase Four. It features Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Wunmi Mosaku in the lead roles. The series will continue after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019) where an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline.
