11 Casting Decisions That Made Fans Lose Their Minds

Hollywood movies are an epic showdown of a great director, a great story, and especially the cast. Many a time even though the story may not be that great, the portrayal of the characters in the story by the cast kind of saves the day. But many times, a lot of politics gets involved while looking for a cast and it ends up screwing the original cast selection or just generally the casting board makes a terrible call at choosing the cast and results in one of the sides become too overbearing for the character or too under bearing for the role. There have been several terrible casting decisions that have ruined a good movie and a recent survey on the internet has come up with a list of movies with bad casting choices.

Dumbledore – Harry Potter

Casting Decisions Made Fans Lose Their Minds

Michael Gambon’s portrayal of Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore as the headmaster of the wizarding school Hogwarts has been criticized by several Harry Potter fans. Fans have argued the preplacement of Richard Harris with Michael Gambon as the worst call ever and have called Michael Gambon’s acting hot-headed, unnecessary hyper activeness and aloof along with zero portrayal of wisdom, sage or class makes him the worst Dumbledore ever.

Lex Luthor – Dawn of Justice

Jesse Eisenberg is an excellent actor and his acting prowess has put him in a different class altogether. But, the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as the villainous Lex Luthor from the DCEU was called out as a mistake by many fans even before the movie was released. Even after the movie was released Jesse Eisenberg’s acting portrayal of the villainous Lex Luthor was nowhere close to perfection. Fans found Jesse to be charmless as Lex and at times a high squeaky annoying snub which kind of looked that he was trying to overdo the character. Another fan even quoted Jesse Eisenberg to look like “Mark Zuckerberg on crystal Meth”.

Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin Skywalker seemed vague to several Star Wars fans across the globe. Fans were not extremely happy with Hayden’s portrayal of the character and even found his character to have zero chemistry with any of the co-stars and has been even given a complement quoting him to be “worse than Jar-jar”.

Rachel Dawes – The Dark Knight

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight has somehow overshadowed the entire plot of The Dark Knight. With Heath Ledger portraying joker, it had gotten the audience worked up, they were uncertain of his character as the joker. But when the movie hit the silver screens people went ballistic about Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker but also commented on how Maggie had not done justice to Rachel Dawes’s role as Bruce’s estranged lover and Harvey’s potential fiancée and eventually wife. Fans called her performance unconvincing and even seemed to damage Heath’s performance.

Venom – Spider-Man 3

Topher Grace’s portrayal of the host of the alien symbiote The Venom seemed to be somewhat of an understatement. Fans argued that they could have found someone a bit more muscular than the pipsqueak stature of Topher. In the comics, Eddie is supposedly a human being of massive stature and a high school football player, which looking at Topher one could not have even remotely guessed him being a high school level football player.

Jack Reacher – Tom Cruise

Jack Reacher is based on a fictional character and the protagonist of a series of crime thriller novels written by author Lee Child. The character has retired as a major in the US army’s military police at the age of 36 and takes up odd jobs and cases which involve dangerous circumstances. Many fans that have read the book can recall him being 6ft 6inches and pushing over 300lbs, but in the movie, the viewers got Tom Cruise who isn’t bad at the acting part but misses out on the stature part.

Oscar Isaac portrayed the infamous ancient Apocalypse, who was one of the first mutants of the world. Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur) stature in the comics is often referred to as someone who over towers even the larger mutants like the beast, but Oscar’s portrayal of Apocalypse In X-Men has left a big gap from the actual storyline. The acting was okay, but the stature of the character kind of put off the whole narrative of a supervillain capable of worldwide domination.

Jane Foster – Thor 2

Natalie Portman’s portrayal of Jane Foster in Thor 1 wooed many movie fans across the world, but her appearance and portrayal of Jane Foster in Thor 2 looked like she was forcing herself to be in the movie and was forcing to act her part. The worst is that the fans have been questioning as to why is she coming back to portray another superhero in the next sequel of Thor if she hates it so much.

Whiplash – Iron Man 2

Top 20 Villains of the MCU

Mickey Rourke’s portrayal of Whiplash in Iron Man was thought to be extremely unappealing by a lot of Marvel fans. Many argued that they could have sound, someone, with the same physique to portray as whiplash on the silver screen. Mickey Rourke’s portrayal of Whiplash made him look weak as a character and even with an armor upgrade made it look like a child’s play for Tony.

Green Lantern

The Green Lantern movie witnesses a battle ensue between parallax and Abin Sur, who crash lands on earth and entrusts the green lantern ring to find its next worthy successor as he seems to be nearing his end. The ring flies off and locates Hal Jordan as its next worthy successor and brings him to Abin Sur for the handover of the Green Lantern ring To Hal Jordan played by Ryan Reynolds. But fans have not been impressed by Ryan’s portrayal of the intergalactic peace corps corporal seemed extremely underpowered even towards the end of the movie.

Sophie Turner’s portrayal of Jean Grey’s after Jean coming in contact with the cosmic Phoenix force has become the talk of the room in most recent times. Sophie has been cast as the actress to lead the role of Jean Grey, who on a mission to space to save a bunch of astronauts from imminent death is encountered by the cosmic phoenix force and the force takes over her body and in certain instances hurt people around her trying to keep her in control. According to a fan Sophie was cast for the movie because of her recent involvement with the Game of Thrones television series and should not be the only criteria due to which stars should be cast for the role of an iconic plot in the comics universe. Fans have claimed that Sophie seemed lost in the role and had no idea about the power the cosmic Phoenix force instills in Jean Grey and were upset with her for taking this role so casually and being extremely blatant about it.
