Real Name And Backstory of Baby Yoda:
The Mandalorian Chapter 13: The Jedi has finally expanded upon the backstory of the Child that is guilty of making us smile constantly! Everyone involved with Disney and Star Wars might call him the Child, but most of the world likes to refer to the kid as Baby Yoda. Well, we’ve come across the revelation that the Child has a name of his own, and it’s certainly not Baby Yoda!
Spoilers for The Mandalorian Chapter 13: The Jedi follow.
In the latest episode, Din Djarin aka Mando found his way to the forest planet Corvus. He was quested to find the infamous Jedi, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) there, so that’s what he did. Ahsoka Tano immediately figured out that Mando’s quest to find her was for the cuddly little green child. So, she spent some time with the kid and revealed that she could understand him “in a way.” She told Mando – “Grogu and I can feel each other’s thoughts.”
She further went on to reveal the history of Grogu, telling Mando and the clueless audience that the 50-year-old child was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He even received training from many Jedi Masters. Tano continued – “At the end of the Clone Wars when the Empire rose to power, he was hidden. Someone took him from the Temple. Then his memory becomes… dark. He seemed lost. Alone.”
So apparently, a mysterious being, possibly even a Jedi master was able to take Grogu away and hide him while Anakin killed all the other Younglings at the temple of Coruscant. This mysterious individual is being theorized to be Master Yaddle, who is another one of Grogu and Yoda’s kind. It could also be Obi-Wan himself. But we’ll have to wait and see about that.
Towards the end of the episode, Ahsoka Tano gave Mando another task. Now he is supposed to take Grogu to the old ruins of a Jedi temple on the planet Tython. She said that another Jedi might sense Grogu’s connection to the Force and be attracted to him. So, maybe Master Yaddle, who got separated from Grogu after hiding him could be that Jedi master. Or maybe it could be Luke Skywalker himself. Only time will tell.
In the meanwhile, let me tell you another interesting fact. Did you know that Baby Yoda’s real name was actually leaked on Reddit back in September? Reddit user u/Denim__Dan took to r/StarWarsLeaks and revealed the name. He wrote that his friend, who had worked on The Mandalorian told him about it. The Redditor wrote:
“A friend of mine has a relative who’s a Hollywood stuntman, and he worked on both season 1 and season 2 of The Mandalorian. Before season 1 came out, he described the new way that Disney has been filming the show, specifically the large screens used as backgrounds. And he described them long before it was ever reported or leaked here. Yesterday he told my friend that Baby Yoda will be getting a real name during this season. How he gets this name, I don’t know. He said The Childs’ name will be Grogu. Now of course take it with a grain of salt, but I’m led to believe him, as he accurately described the filming methods Disney used long before they were ever reported upon here, or elsewhere.”
Well, this is the reason why we cannot ignore the leaks that arrive on Reddit. A good percentage of them do end up coming true. So, look out for them in the future. Or if you want to enjoy the revelations when they come with the episodes, then you could just wait. The Mandalorian is going to return with its Chapter 14 on Disney+ next Friday.
