10 Anime Characters Who Didn’t Deserve To Be Main Leads

Anime Characters Main Leads:

Firstly, please don’t hate me if you see your favorite character on this list. These are some of the characters who were good but were overhyped because of the crazy fandoms who are so stubborn.

 1. Ash Ketchum: Pokémon

Pokémon was probably one of the first anime that made us fall in love with animes. Ash Ketchum is the protagonist of a franchise that introduced a whole generation to anime. Ash just never grows up both physically and mentally. He is the same person in every episode and season regardless of how many different regions he travels to. He never catches any legendary Pokémon, leaves his Pokemon behind, never trains, and is obsessed with Pikachu. In total he has only 81 out of 721 Pokémon i.e. 11.23% and he wants to be the Pokémon master! He is so one dimensional.

 2. Lucy Heartfilia – Fairy Tail

She is the weakest Mage in all of Fairy Tail. She has keys that summons multiple spirits and she got defeated. Take the keys away from her and she is useless. Lucy just has way too many weaknesses. A great example of how weak she is when they did the water tournament and Minerva takes her keys out of her hands and beats the crap out of her. She didn’t deserve to be the protagonist of the show.

 3. Goku – Dragon Ball Z

Goku is a good character but he isn’t the best. He really neglected his family, especially his kid. He was so emotionally distant at times, which was heartbreaking to watch. So, I think if you are the main character of a series, you are bound to have a protective fan base. Goku’s fan base is the most intolerant by far and makes him what he isn’t.

 4. Near (N) – Death Note

I agree he’s not the main character, but after L’s death, everyone relied upon Near to catch Kira. During the battle against Kira, Near did nothing but speculate, while Mello did all the work and fought. His coldness when he heard L, his mentor died was brutal. He didn’t care about human life at all and was so arrogant to respect L and his legacy.

 5. Sasuke Uchiha – Naruto

Sasuke Uchiha is arrogant and has hardly impressed us with his fights. They have all been mediocre. His abilities are not even close to being extraordinary. He’s been dominated by his opponents and as soon as Haku starts taking the fight seriously, Sasuke is easily defeated. His increasing jealousy with Naruto is too much. Sasuke became a kind of a jerk, killing people in ways that only villains do and had no regard for the life of his comrades who are the only reasons he hasn’t been killed.

 6. Sakura – Naruto

Sorry, but I don’t even consider her a character. She wasn’t productive in the whole show. As a ninja, her fights were too bland and ordinary. Honestly, she was a cry baby who’s the only motive was to impress Sasuke.

 7. Nagisa Furukawa – Clannad/After Story

Nagisa has no personality. She is ultra-submissive, ultra-kind, ultra-naive. Her “personality” consists of cuteness and forced innocence, which feels like overdone. Nagisa was a ditz who felt she couldn’t do anything without Tomoya’s help, which was so irritating. She literally refused to recognize her full potential.

 8. Lelouch Lamperouge – Code Geass

I cannot understand why this anorexic character is popular. He has a rotten attitude, is narcissistic in every way, and is so arrogant. In the end, he just screws everyone over for the sake of mere pride. Lulu is insufferable, abusive, and over-dramatic.

 9. Levi – Attack On Titan

He’s blank-faced most of the time. He’s described as the most powerful guy in his squad. I agree that Levi can be cool, awesome, and he does have his funny moments, but he isn’t what I thought he was going to be. He’s too predictable sometimes and lacks emotional depth most of the time.

 10. Haruhi Suzumiya – Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

She is an extremely self-centered person whose obsession with the supernatural makes her a constant source of danger to the world.  While Haruhi is at times charming, she can also come across as a foolish brat. She’s perfectly willing to hurt other people for her entertainment and fun. I see her more as an antagonist. Her domineering manner stops the development of other characters. She’s more of a bully at the end.
