Netflix Announces Release Date of 13 Reasons Why Final Season

In 2017 when the first season of 13 Reasons Why dropped on Netflix, the world was hit by a storm as the show was highly controversial yet successful. The teen drama series touched on topics that were almost ‘too heavy’ for television and so it worked on the streaming giant Netflix. 13 Reasons Why, a TV adaptation of the Jay Asher novel, was created by Brian Yorkey. In August of last year, it was announced that 13 Reasons Why would be ending with season 4.

There are also speculations as to what the last season will be about. The first season covered the events in the 2007 novel of the same name by author Jay Asher that followed the suicide of high school student Hannah Baker and the series of incidents that led to it. The show got huge success in a short span of time and also got criticism for the bold content and visual depiction of violence, suicide, bullying and rape. However, it succeeded in not only making a lot of money and getting consecutive seasons but also in starting a dialogue about these issues.

From the second season onwards the protagonist Hannah Baker played by newcomer Katherine Langford got less screen time and the second lead of the show Clay Jensen played by Dylan Minette was brought to the centre and new issues like school shooting were added. The third season was probably the least successful with the storyline focusing on the main antagonist and sexual predator Bryce Walker and his murder. It ended at the reveal that the character Alex Standall actually killed Bryce and that the whole group tried to frame Monty for it who eventually went to jail and died. This season the story could proceed from there or preferably go in a whole new direction.

Netflix has not yet released a teaser or trailer for the season and the video released is only meant to highlight the fact that it is the final goodbye from the loved teen drama. Fans have also been speculating whether Katherine Langford would return as Hannah Baker and we think there is a small chance of that happening as she wasn’t present in the third season as well and will only be shown in a few flashbacks if that happens. We are hoping that the season would not lack substance and would actually have a solid storyline as it is the last one and the show should end on a powerful note. So stay tuned till June 5 to bid goodbye to 13 Reasons Why with its final season.
