Thor May Fight The Serpent in Thor: Love And Thunder:
Thor became a huge deal right when Taika Waititi revamped him into something rather new. He started to really live up to his name as the God of Thunder. By the time we reached Infinity War, Thor actually became everyone’s favorite Avenger as he was outpolling even Iron Man. Endgame gave him a makeover and showed us a very different side of him. While we loved that, we are now ready to see Thor be back in shape as he used to be. While we thought Thor was the only OG to go on for a longer period of time in the MCU, Thor: Love And Thunder may actually be his final movie.
Honestly, there may be plenty of good Thor stories that Marvel could adapt, but there may not be a lot of places left that Thor could go as a character. His story arcs after the second Thor film have been quite innovative, but not a lot of changes are left to be done. So, everything might have to be done in this final movie. We’re saying this because Phase 4 is about letting go of the old and embracing the new.
Every film or project is bringing in a new superhero to pass the torch, or establish them for the future. Thor: Love And Thunder is bringing in Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor. And, rumor has it that Gorr the Godbutcher will be one of the villains in the film. So it does seem that Thor will find his love, pass on the mantle, and have a big sacrificial death while fighting the Godbutcher all in one movie.
But we don’t really have a confirmation as to Gorr actually being in the film. Nothing may be set in stone for now, and anything could happen. There are plenty of fights involving Thor that is still impending. The fans have always wanted Thor V Beta Ray Bill, Thor vs. Hercules, and Thor vs. Adam Warlock. In fact, James Gunn’s firing made Thor team up with the Guardians and we all thought that was done for the sole purpose of taking on Adam Warlock. But that probably wouldn’t be the case since the Guardians and Thor will be separated at the beginning of Love and Thunder.
So, if this really is Thor’s final movie then we have to have one battle for sure. Taika cannot let Thor go without making him fight the Midgard Serpent. Apparently, Thor would have actually fought this giant snake in the early drafts of Infinity War. There was even a concept art that showed Thor & Rocket taking on the giant snake residing deep underwater. Thor would have fought this snake as it would have been the guardian of the Stormbreaker. That fight didn’t happen since the side quest didn’t really move the story forward, but that doesn’t mean that it cannot happen in the future.
In the comics, Thor dies right as he takes just 8 or 9 steps after killing the Serpent. This may be the death that Thor might get instead of going down at the hands of Gorr the Godbutcher. There are 3 villains in total that are rumored to go up against Thor and the Revengers. Amora the Enchantress is one of them, and the latest villain added amongst the bunch was Mangog.
Mangog is extremely powerful & has the strength of “a billion, billion beings.” That’s because he’s actually a living prison for his whole race. Odin was the one who created Mangog, so having him in the story would continue the concept of Thor clearing the messes of his father. First it was Loki who was literally raised as a second fiddle to Thor. Then we had Odin’s old foe Malekith, and Hela was obviously locked by Odin himself. Now, Mangog could be another one of those.
It could be possible that Mangog could be a minor villain. He could just be there in the beginning for a quick action scene to make Thor look a real bad-ass. Apparently we’ve had those in every single Thor movie. To change things and make the third act even cooler, we could have Amora, Gorr & Mangog team up for a finale! Jane could take on Amora, Valkyrie could fight Mangog, and Thor could go up against Gorr the God Butcher. And there could be yet another nameless army for the likes of Loki, Korg and Miek to fight.
But, would the fans want to see Mangog or Gorr at the expense of the Midgard Serpent? Probably not. Taika brought the giant Fenris wolf in Ragnarok, and the Serpent maybe his play in Love and Thunder. Let’s see who makes it to the film. Stuffing 3 villains are fine, but 4 might just be too much. So one of the 4 may have to be left out.
