With Captain Marvel introducing the shapeshifting Skrulls in the MCU, it is a no-brainer that the next phase of the MCU could actually be about the secret invasion storyline. But has Marvel already been planting seeds for that? With the trailer of Captain Marvel, we can be almost certain that the Skrulls have been on Earth. Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos who is the Skrull leader will be present in an important position on Earth. The old lady that Captain Marvel punched in the face is a Skrull. So we could imagine that the Skrulls would have planted agents on our planet who would have infiltrated many important positions by now. That is why a new theory suggests that Avengers 4 will reveal General Thunderbolt Ross to be a Skrull.
Ross made his entry in The Incredible Hulk where he had a more hands-on approach in trying to stop the Hulk. He appointed Sergeant Emil Blonsky who then turned into Abomination, so in a way you could say, that was on him. But later on, he made a comeback in Civil War, trying to enforce the Sokovia Accords upon the Avengers to get them in check. That is what made the crack in the team and he tried to do the same in Avengers: Infinity War. Obviously, he was just following orders and just wanted to keep the Avengers in check, but what if there was another reason for his rigidness?
We certainly noticed a change in his behavior when he reprised his role in Civil War but was there a specific reason for that? He was brought back for a reason! No other character from The Incredible Hulk has reprised their role in the MCU, so Marvel must have something big planned for him. While most people think that he might become the Red Hulk moving forward, a Redditor who goes by the name, Camzabob has a totally different theory. He claims that Thaddeus is, in fact, a Skrull agent. Here’s what his theory says:
“Just a small theory or more speculation really. General Ross is a Skrull. Here are some ideas:
He is in favour of the accords, trying to split the Avengers up to weaken them before a possible invasion.
His first appearance in The Incredible Hulk, he tries to actively stop the Hulk, who would be problematic in the event of an invasion.”
The theorist proposes that whatever Ross has done till now has been to set up the invasion, and obviously for the betterment of the Skrulls. His theory introduces the Super Skrull into the mix. It continues:
“Here’s where I think it could get interesting:
In the comics, the Super Skrull has the abilities of all four members of the Fantastic Four, flame powers and flight, invisibility, stretchiness and most notably in this theory, the strength and arms of the Thing.
I propose that General Ross was trying to get Hulk DNA to order to infuse a Super Skrull with the DNA of the Hulk
It may be possible that he got his hands on some DNA and if the Super Skrull appears, they’d have Hulk’s strength and arms (and instead of FF abilities, OG 6 Avengers abilities), but, here’s what I think would be neat…
Have the Super Skrull infused with Abomination DNA, giving him that look instead. And, instead of Fantastic Four abilities, have him have the previous villains’ powers instead.
I think this would be an amazing callback that could really solidify the Skrulls’ place in the MCU.”
This particular theory is a far stretch, but it would be really amazing if it turns out to be something close. We’d sure like to see a Super Skrull, having the abilities of the Hulk, and probably the other 5 Avengers. As he mentioned, it would be a great callback to them in the future, after they are done in Avengers 4. We will only find out about this in Avengers 4 or Phase 4.
