The new trailer for the X-Men: Dark Phoenix based on the acclaimed Dark Phoenix saga of the 1990s is out and it is making the news for all the right reasons. It will feature an out-of-control Jean Grey as she lets herself be possessed by an extra-dimensional entity and wreaks havoc on the world. With the Disney-Fox deal happening, the movie’s trailer did manage to put in one inside joke that was so obvious that we could not stop but laugh at the very ingenuity and creativity of it.
While the scene could have been a coincidence when it was being shot, the way it was presented in the trailer in the limelight is something that could not be ignored. Fox riled up Disney’s feather with this one. Presenting – Latest Dark Phoenix trailer makes extremely funny MCU joke everyone missed!!
The news of Disney taking over Fox and planning a merger of the two huge entertainment industry giants was something that was going on since November 2017. Delays in the project were also very rampant with more than half a dozen delays to the release date announced by the core production company in the past years alone. The release date of Dark Phoenix was postponed time and again until a definitive date in 2019 was locked up for it.
This led to massive speculation amongst the fans that Fox Studios had lost interest and confidence in the project and the reshoots that were ordered were just a course correction measure to help the Director and producers convince the Fox overlords that the movie still had hope. Others believed that with Disney taking over Fox soon, the former had requested the latter to remake the entire movie in such a way that it could incorporate the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its ending.
But this joke takes the cake. Rumors come and go but the way Fox handled this fiasco with panache is something that everyone could learn out of. The trailer shows a lot of unseen footage but the one scene that takes the cake is when Dark Phoenix takes over a train where several of the X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants members are being kept captive. The mutants on the train are being held under control by the use of power-neutralizing collars. And guess what – all the guards on the prison train wear Uniforms with tags that say “MCU” in bold capital letters.
This seems obviously an intentional attempt to down credit Disney and Marvel. But all of this must be taken in good spirits. The Disney-Fox deal is about to happen anytime now and there are a lot of instances where even rival studios do this. The former is at least a future where the studio that takes a dig on the other studio is actually going to be a part of it in the coming days. All is fair in love and war they say.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on the 7th of June, 2019.
Avengers: Endgame is set for release on the 26th of April, 2019. The official film synopsis of the movie has been recently released and it states:
“After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.”
The last Avengers movie to be released under the MCU banner was Avengers: Infinity War. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artefacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
