When Warner Bros. said that they were going to cast a wannabe down on his luck celebrity as the next Joker, nobody knew Heath Ledger could nail the role so damn hard that he will bag an Oscar as the Clown Prince of Crime. The DC Extended Universe is many things, but bad casting choices are not something that its list of flaws has within them. Ben Affleck, with his thickened physique, brooding voice and a set of expressions perfect for both Bruce Wayne and the Batman, was, is and probably will be the perfect choice for the Batman.
But with studio politics, rival media influenced fan base pressure and his own age being a factor, Ben Affleck is most likely to step down from his role as the Batman and allow someone else to take over after his work is done in the DCEU. And the DCEU has already locked in on another actor which they think is perfect for the job. Presenting – Unbroken Star Jack O’Connell most likely to replace Ben Affleck as Batman!!
The rumor of Jack O’Connell replacing Ben Affleck as the new Batman of the DCEU is not a new one. It had surfaced a long while ago. Jack O’Connell is a popular and up and coming actor of the movie-making industry who has appeared in several popular Hollywood ventures like Unbroken (directed by Angelina Jolie herself) and Starred Up.
The guy is currently working on his Netflix western limited series Lawless and has garnered up quite a reputation as someone fit for a role of a dark and bleak variety like the Dark Knight. But with no other rumour coming up to support the rumour of O’Connell replacing Affleck, all the fires of the previous rumour died out and the story was lost to the winds.
It has recently come to light that Jack O’Connell is till Warner Bros. Studios best choice for the role of Bruce Wayne in the DC Extended Universe. Jack is unavailable for comments but the Studio is sure that they will bag the actor as the new Batman. If, in any case, Jack refuses to play Bruce Wayne on screen, then the Studio and Matt Reeves (Director of the upcoming Batman movie) wants an actor in the 25-30 range. Warner Bros is likely to announce the new Batman actor by the month of May or June this year.
There are some fans who would vehemently oppose this movie by the Studio. For many fans, the only guy who has the balls to replace Ben Affleck is Jon Hamm. Some others believe that Jake Gyllenhaal is the guy that the DCEU needs to consider. We still do not have Warner Bros Studios’ official comment on this. Whoever plays the Batman in the Reeves’ directed venture is going to play a younger version of the caped crusader with the movie being set at least a decade ago in the past, steering clear of the official Justice League and BVS timeline of the DCEU for now.
And we also have the name of the big bad wolf of The Batman movie. It is none other than Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin. There are bound to be more details coming our way pretty soon. Until then, we have to buckle up and stick to the shadows. The Batman movie is happening. But the only problem is – we know next to nothing about it. Let us hope the DCEU changes that in the future.
Batman last appeared in the DCEU in Justice League of 2017. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity, and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly-awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes in Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash, it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
