Avengers: Endgame – A More Evil Thanos from the Past Could be the Real Villain

Avengers Endgame will be one of the biggest thriller events we have ever seen in a comic book film. Infinity War was a massive film which left us all star struck at the very end. Considering the level of secrecy that is being maintained around Endgame, it has to have a big plot twist that will be as strong as The Sixth Sense. Thanos will return in the next film, but this time he will be defeated no matter what.

As of now, Thanos is not sitting in his favorite chair as he seems to be done with that. He is currently on Titan 2, spending the rest of his life peacefully on a farm. He has accomplished everything he wanted to, so why would he come back to take on the Avengers. He has no purpose left to do that. So, something has to drag him back to the heavy fight against the Avengers who are still trying to reverse the snap somehow.

A new theory by Reddit user ak2sup suggests something totally different to bring Thanos back into the game. According to the Reddit user, the

“Thanos we see in Endgame will be from past- 2012 New york battle (time-travell), a more evil version of mad titan without any infinity stone, All he had back then was a double bladed Sword and an Army.

Now we already know that time travel through Quantum Realm will be a key element in the film and with the Avengers being able to do that, they certainly open up many options which could solve the Decimation problem that they came across towards the end of Infinity War. The Redditor proposes that there could be three ways that the Avengers could go about solving this problem.

Avengers: Endgame Thanos

The First one is the easiest though that we have when we think of Time Travel in Avengers: Endgame, i.e. the Avengers will try to collect all the Infinity Stones in the past and prevent the snap from happening in the first place. But as it is obvious, that would cause an infinite amount of repercussions to the timeline that they have already lived in.

For instance, taking out the Tesseract from the past, or stealing the Mind Stone would mean that Age of Ultron will not happen and we’d probably not be seeing the likes of Vision, Wanda, and Pietro that were direct results of the mind Stone.

The second way to reverse the snap would be

“Another Snap- If the Avengers manage to take all infinity stones from Thanos and put them in a new gauntlet and do another snap to bring back everyone but, there’s a problem- Thanos still have 6 infinity stones and he can use one at a time so it is nearly impossible for Avengers to take the stones from him.”

So, the things that the Avengers will do with Time Travel at their disposal will have to be much more subtle. This is where the third way comes into the picture, bringing in a Thanos that doesn’t have the Infinity Gauntlet yet, and as mentioned above, he only has the big sword that we’ve seen in the concept arts and toys along with the Black Order and the two big disposable armies.

Avengers: Endgame Thanos

Now, this is something that seems pretty intriguing if you consider as the Avengers could be looking to fight and kill Thanos in the past, i.e. somewhere around the events of the first Avenger.

Avengers: Endgame Tony Stark

According to the Reddit user:

“This is best way to undo the Snap without changing the future, The Heroes (Tony, Antman, Captain Marvel, Nebula, Thor, Rocket, Natasha, Rhodey) will travel to 2012 timeline during the New York invasion (as seen in the set photos), all of them will go undercover to hide from their past selves, Tony & Ant-Man will steal the Sceptre/Mind stone (for temporary use) and interrogate Loki to learn more about Thanos and his current whereabouts.

They then team up with Past Steve Rogers and Hulk. Together they will travel to Sanctuary I- the domain of Thanos. At that time Thanos had no Infinity stone but Just a double bladed Sword, Black Order and an army (this also explains Tony’s Age of Ultron vision, remember MCU put meaningful lines/scenes to use them later so, Tony’s vision was some kind of foreshadowing) Avengers fight the Laviathans and Thanos, managing to defeat/kill the Mad Titan there.”

After this, the Redditor suggests that the only problem that will occur with this being the case would be that the events of Guardians of the Galaxy will be tampered. Thanos would not be alive to either send Gamora on the missions to know the whereabouts of the Soul Stone or the Power Stone, and neither will Ronan come into the picture the way he did.

So because of this reasoning, the Avengers will have to find out an absolute solution to the problems caused by the time travel alteration. The strategy that they will involve will have to be perfect. It should only affect the timeline during Avengers: Infinity War and beyond, and before that, everything has to remain the same till the point that Thor leads an Asgardian refuge to Earth or, Spider-Man is on his way to a school trip to the museum.

The theory that we have above is plausible as it answers many questions, but it still needs refinement to have some precedence with Avengers: Endgame. It could work, but we have to use some more brains to solve all the problems that it might create.

Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame will open on April 26, and it’ll presumably star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Renner Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tessa Thompson, Evangeline Lilly, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, Katherine Langford, Stellan Skarsgard and Brie Larson.
