Best Superhero Movie Moments of 2018 –
2018 was the biggest year for Superhero films. Even though it brought out only 1 live-action film from Fox Marvel, Sony-Marvel & DC, it still made up for the rest with 3 big MCU films and 2 amazing 3D Animated films. So, 8 Superhero films in total, and now we get to choose the best moments out of all of them. Here’s a list:
1. Black Panther – Killmonger’s Death
Erik Killmonger proved to be amongst the best Comic book villains of all times. He was right up there with Thanos, Loki, and even Heath Ledger’s Joker. Adding his element to the film is what made the movie the best solo Superhero film of the year. The reason why he worked so well was that he was so relatable to the general audiences, and many would actually support most of his cause. So his story took us on an emotional ride and that is why the ending of the film elevated things to a whole new level.
Sure the CGI at the end may be a little Wonky, but it led to the greatest moment of the film, that was the death of Killmonger. He got to see the most beautiful sunset in Wakanda and fell off in a long shot leaving the audiences stunned.
2. Deadpool 2 – The Post Credits Scene
Deadpool 2 proved to be a worthy sequel which was full of crisp action, loads of humor, so many cameos and a whole lot of merc mouthing. The film was total fun bringing in the element of the family as all films do these days, but the best moment of the film arrived right at the end during the mid-credits scene. The Super Duper Cut added more to it and even brought in a post-credits scene. So, the entire montage with Deadpool fixing things from his past, killing off the old cyclops pool, Ryan Reynolds before he signed on for Green Lantern, and almost killing Adolf Hitler for good!
3. Incredibles 2 – Jack Jack and the Raccoon
The Incredibles returned to theatres in a worthy sequel after 14 years of waiting. Director Brad Bird was able to satisfy our needs with the sequel of the superfamily, but the new aspect added to this film was Jack Jack and his multiple powers. We cannot wait to see a third film in the franchise which properly explored Jack Jack’s many powers as that is what gave us the best moment of the second film. With the film being filled with loads of action, the fight between Jack Jack and the Racoon was certainly the best of all. It showed us how insanely powerful Jack Jack is, and how miserable the Raccoon was after taking him on.
4. Avengers: Infinity War – Thor’s Entrance
It is needless to say that Avengers: Infinity War had more than just one best moment. But there were a few that just had to make this list. While Cap’s entrance in the film was great, and so was Iron Man’s it is the entrance of Thor that turned out to be the best. He got in his new Axe Stormbreaker and then made the most dramatic entrance in the history of Superhero films. Every second of that moment was cheered in the theatres as we got to see Thor in the real God mode!
5. Venom – The Bike Chase Sequence
It is safe to say that Venom was a dumb fun film, and the critics were totally wrong about it. Tom Hardy’s performance as Eddie Brock was just outstanding and that is what pulled the film to a worldwide success. So with a lot of Venom moments in the film, we have actually picked the one which had the least amount of Venom in it, and that was the bike chase scene through San Francisco.
Brock tries to escape the drones and goons of Carlton Drake, and they make a mess out of the city but still weren’t able to catch Brock who was saved by Venom multiple times while we got a cool action sequence.
6. Aquaman – The Final Battle
James Wan brought us a visual marvel which is being loved by the audiences worldwide. The film looks absolutely stunning and is jam-packed with loads of action sequences. It had a lot of thrilling moments and some may argue that the horror sequence with the Trench was certainly top-notch, but we have picked the final battle to be the part about the film.
There was so much happening in the epic underwater war, and then comes the new King of Atlantis wielding Atlan’s Trident. He leads the underwater battle, we get to see an epic kiss amidst the war which was visually stunning and then the gut-wrenching dual between Aquaman and Orm completely steals the show. This film surely does deserve more praise than it is getting.
7. Avengers: Infinity War – Iron Man V Thanos
Infinity War was jam-packed with action, but the moment where your mind is really blown comes when we see a one on one between Tony and Thanos. Tony uses the nanotech suit to its full potential which just never ceased to amaze us, and then came the scene where our hearts stopped beating for a second as Thanos stabs Tony making us think that this is it! We got the big jump scare and the thought of Tony’s death brutal death. Fortunately, Doctor Strange saved him and us.
8. Ant-Man and the Wasp – Mid Credits Scene
The sequel to Ant-Man was a worthy entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was an adventure that lightened the mood after both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War gave us serious endings. Ant-Man and the Wasp was a happy go film throughout, telling us their story right before Thanos attacks the planet.
We see a fun outing of the two tiny heroes teaming up to bring Janet Van Dyne back to the human dimension. The film brought in a cool chase sequence but we had to pick the Mid Credits sequence over that, as the disintegration event brought us back to the serious ending, with the Pyms turning into dust and Scott being stuck in the Quantum Realm.
9. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – Miles takes the leap of faith
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is being claimed to be the best, or probably the second best Spider-Man film of all time. The reason behind that is that it is an amazing origin story, and stays true to the comics in many ways. We got to see 6 different versions of Spider-Men/Women, and loads of action. But the best moment of the film came at the end which turned out to be a real character developing moment for Miles Morales’ Spider-Man.
Throughout the film we see Miles go through an emotional ride, learning to be Spider-Man and the responsibilities that come with being the hero. Having other Spider-people being similar to him did help his cause, but the big character defining moment comes when he takes the leap of faith, controls his powers totally and saves the entire multiverse from collapsing.
10. Avengers: Infinity War – The Decimation
Amongst all the thrilling moments of the film, this had to take the big prize as it is not the biggest moment of this year, but it may actually be the biggest moment in the history of comic book movies. Never have the stakes of a film been so high that the impact of one little snap was felt throughout the Universe.
Thanos became the biggest villain of all time completing the snap that led to the emotional deaths of many of our favourite Avengers. One after the other, we saw people turning into dust starting from Bucky, then T’Challa, Groot, Sam, Wanda, Drax, Mantis, Quill, Doctor Strange and finally Spider-Man.
The scene had a deeper meaning as the ones who died had direct impacts on the surviving Avengers. Bucky’s death broke Steve, T’Challa’s death meant the failure of Okoye’s mission, Groot’s death affected Rocket, and most importantly, Peter’s emotional disintegration takes a big toll on Tony and all of us fans watching! So, this without a doubt, has to be the most gut-wrenching moment of a Superhero movie where we see the villain win undeniably!
