Avengers 4 will mark the end and a new beginning for the MCU. Things are going to drastically change beyond Avengers 4 as people from Marvel have mentioned time and time again that the MCU in Phase 4 will be nothing like you’ve ever seen before. So it will be safe to say that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to take a new shape and it will essentially be given to it by the Quantum Realm.
So far, you might think that you know enough about the Quantum Realm, but what you think is so wrong! The two Ant-Man films that have come out in the MCU till now have explained us a few things about the Quantum Realm, but that has certainly not been enough.
The Quantum Realm was first introduced in Ant-Man, then Doctor Strange gave us a glimpse and very little add on to what we knew about the Quantum Realm. But the recent Ant-Man and the Wasp took a straight dive into the intricacies of the Quantum Realm.
Also, you’d be intrigued to know that the features of the Quantum Realm were actually teased back in Thor: The Dark World. But even after seeing quite a lot of it, you still don’t know the real possibilities of the Quantum Realm, and that is what Avengers 4 will help us with.
Avengers 4 will completely bring the Quantum Realm into the picture and present a means to take down Thanos for good. But what it will necessarily do for us is that it will set a future that will be heavily dependent upon the Quantum Realm.
For proof, here’s what Kevin Feige had to say about the Quantum Realm.
“At the end of Ant-Man we followed Scott Lang into the Quantum Realm for the first time. We were beginning to peel back the onion that would later be completely peeled back in Doctor Strange as we go into the multiverse. So that was our little test into that.”
So what our favourite MCU President says here is that the Ant-Man movies have only visited the tip of the iceberg. The real Barrel will be scrapped from the bottom by the future Doctor Strange movies. The Ancient One teased the fact that the Quantum Realm is actually a dimension which is benevolent and life giving and as Feige has said, it will also lead us into the multiverse of the MCU.
Recently in an interview, Hank Pym actor Michael Douglas revealed that the mysterious Quantum Realm is actually “the key” to Avengers 4 and the future of the MCU. When asked about the Quantum Realm being really important, he said:
“Right. Right. That is absolutely true. I mean, all of them — I mean, the Quantum Realm, that’s the key. That’s the key. The Quantum Realm plays an important part in all the next chapters, I think, of the Marvel films. It’s a whole other world, it’s a whole other language and world, the Marvel comics world. You gotta take a course in it.”
What Mr. Douglas says here is absolutely true as there is a lot riding upon Quantum Realm. It will bring us time travel in Avengers 4. Even before that, Kevin Feige mentioned that this dimension will also have a role to play in Captain Marvel. So that’s 4 franchises in total which are based upon the Quantum Realm including Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, the Avengers and Captain Marvel.
The Avengers movies are basically crossover events which could take a cue from any aspect, but the solo films, in particular, continue a streamlined storyline which is mostly carried forward in every sequel. So, it is obvious that the Quantum Realm will be carried forward for 6 or even more movies in the future.
Logically, it is a great step to have the MCU being based around the Quantum Realm because there is just so much to explore within this dimension. Time Vortexes, recently discovered Quantum Realm city, micro-sized giant mysterious creatures, the benevolent nature of it, and what not!
The fact that Marvel will stretch the Quantum Realm for at least 6 more movies is what seems quite intriguing because how they are going to do it is quite a big mystery here.
For now, let’s stay focused upon what the Quantum Realm is going to portray in Avengers 4 which comes out on May 3, 2019.
