When Does Daredevil Season 3 Take Place in Regards to Avengers: Infinity War?
Daredevil Season 3 has been streaming for almost 2 weeks now, and it is a pleasure to say that this particular season of the show has lived up to its predecessors in terms of maintaining the quality of story-telling unlike the other Marvel Netflix shows this year. While Daredevil takes place in the larger Marvel continuity, you would obviously ask when it actually takes place in the timeline as regards to the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
The latest season following the Devil of Hell’s kitchen has literally elevated the storylines of all its characters. The show was amazingly well written, full of unexpected twists and turns, and most of all, it was magical with character development. Every relevant character on the show had their stories well fleshed out to the core.
Karen Page and Foggy Nelson got amazing story arcs, while Vincent D’Onofrio’s extremely extraordinary performance as Kingpin was one of the standouts of the show. He proved to be a worthy adversary and has now officially joined the list of top-notch MCU, villains which include the likes of Loki, Thanos, Killmonger and even the Red Skull.
But this story would not have been possible if the show would have taken after Thanos’ Snap. It was full of Easter Eggs from the Daredevil Comic lore, but you can say that it did not portray any sort of connection to the Marvel Studios movie storyline, which other shows do even at a minimal stage.
We did not even get a Stan Lee photo/poster/billboard/painting cameo in this particular season. It was very self-centered and didn’t even refer to other Marvel Netflix shows a lot. There was no reference to the new Iron Fist in town (Coleen Wing), but still, it portrayed the best Daredevil storyline, and this season was certainly the best!
The guy who’s in charge with all things relating to Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb was asked about the timeline of the show, and he straightaway replied that the show takes place before the events of Infinity War. Well, they have to because all the shows would have been ruined if they had to remove half of the core cast members from the mix.
The show could have been completely derailed and the creatives would not have been able to tell the story that they wanted to if they addressed the snap. Also, when the season was being written, Marvel Studios was already moving pretty fast at producing Infinity War and Avengers 4 almost back to back.
None of the Marvel properties until now have addressed the post-snap world of Marvel. Ant-Man and the Wasp only gave us a cryptic hint leaving an Ant playing the drum at the end.
Captain Marvel will largely take place in the past, but we can hope to see how the post-snap world might be when Captain Marvel gets its connection established to Avengers 4. Agents of SHIELD, which usually connects to the movies the most, actually ignored the snap and went on to do its own thing.
So, even if the recent seasons of Marvel Netflix shows would have taken place post snap and ignored the disintegration, we would have been okay with it because the most amount of connections that they establish with the Movie Universe is showing the Avengers tower in the poster.
The execs just say that it is all connected, but we have now come to an agreement that it isn’t, and we can’t obviously hope the TV characters to show up in the movies because it just can’t happen. Kevin Feige is in charge of Marvel movies, and Jeph Loeb looks over Marvel TV, so the connection ain’t happening ever.
Avengers 4 will reverse the snap, so by that time Marvel Netflix shows can tell (or at least pretend to) the future stories of their leftover characters after the events of Avengers 4. Well, there isn’t much left to tell as Netflix has already cancelled Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
The Defenders is never going to be touched again, and even after the brilliant season of Daredevil, it also might be on the radar of cancellation as the viewership of the show in the first week of its release dropped by 57% compared to Season 2.
We don’t want Daredevil or The Punisher to be cancelled. Rather we would really appreciate if Netflix ends their stories and not leave us on Cliff-hangers.
