Infinity War became the big movie to involve the most amount of deaths in the MCU. Before this, no other movie actually involved so much death and destruction. Sure Earth was invaded by aliens and attacked by a robot army, but none of the important characters really died.
This is what people kept complaining about, but now we know that Marvel was saving it all for their big crossover event. And apparently, people actually could not digest so many deaths for a change!
Heimdall began the death spree on screen and he was followed by Loki. Then Gamora died at Vormir, Vision was killed by Thanos which allowed him to get the final Infinity Stone. Thanos snapped his fingers and then came the moment we all feared. The big snap killed Bucky, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Sam, Groot, Wanda, Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Hope Van Dyne, Nick Fury and Maria Hill.
But still it’s good that the core characters actually ended up surviving and those include the original 6 Avengers – Captain America, Thor, Natasha, Tony, Bruce and apart from those, the surviving relevant characters are War Machine, Pepper, Rocket, Nebula, Okoye, M’Baku, Happy, Valkyrie and Ant-Man.
Later, Black Panther actor Angela Basset who was promoting Mission: Impossible – Fallout a while ago revealed that Queen Romanda and Shuri survived the snap. Here’s what she said when asked whether she died in the snap:
“No. Neither did my daughter. Shuri, she’s a bright girl there in Wakanda. So…”
Two more cosmic characters have been confirmed to survive, and those include Valkyrie and the Collector. Infinity War writers confirmed that Valkyrie did survive but we should really prey for Korg. And recently, actor Benico Del Toro was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and there he claimed that Taneleer Tivan could also be alive. He said:
“I think he’s alive, yeah, I think that you know, I think he’s alive.”
So, Thanos must have spared his life while he left the vault in ruins on Knowhere. Moving ahead of the survival of these two cosmic individuals, we now have confirmation for two more MCU characters that did not turn to dust in the snappening.
While books related to Avengers: Infinity War are now being sold in the market, a new one written by Brandon T. Snider, called The Cosmic Quest, Volume 2: Aftermath has given us confirmation that Dr. Erik Selvig and his associate Darcy Lewis have survived since they lead the story in this book.
Not just this, the synopsis of the book tells us that they’re “determined to find and understand the cause of the devastation.” We last saw Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) in Avengers: Age of Ultron but he was not a part of Avengers: Infinity War. New theories suggest that not only will he have an important role to play in Avengers 4, but he already predicted the future of the MCU back in Thor: The Dark World.
Selvig is surely an important character in the MCU and he might have a role equally similar in importance to what he had back in the first Avengers movie. You could certainly make that out with the book being out there, as Marvel will actually be looking to bring Selvig back into the centre of the story.
So, coming out on May 3, Avengers 4 will presumably star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Renner Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tessa Thompson, Evangeline Lilly, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, Katherine Langford, Stellan Skarsgard and Brie Larson.
Here’s the official Synopsis of Avengers 4:
“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
