Avengers: Infinity War Theory Reveals Where Captain Marvel Has Been Till Now

Captain Marvel is the next MCU movie to come out before we get the Phase ending event with Avengers 4. After having her debut in her solo movie, she will feature in the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War and take on Thanos teaming up with the rest of the Avengers. The first trailer of Captain Marvel gave us quite a lot of details about Carol Danvers and what her character could be like, but it did not tease the fact about where Captain Marvel has been all this time in the MCU.

Kevin Feige (the head of Marvel studios) said in an interview that Captain Marvel will be the “most powerful” superhero in the Marvel universe. But why haven’t we heard anything about her at all in the MCU? If Fury worked so closely with probably the most powerful Superhero ever, why has he stayed mum about her till now? Not even a name drop. That is pretty odd. The only tease we got for Captain Marvel came right at the end of Infinity War in the post-credits scene.

But still, that hasn’t stopped the fans to come up with theories explaining her absence in MCU after her solo movie. A theory on Reddit explains why Captain Marvel has been such a blur in the MCU and why Nicky Fury contacted her just after the events of Infinity War. Here’s what it says:

Captain Marvel Avengers: Infinity War Theory

“This is my theory of why Captain Marvel has been absent in the MCU since the 90’s. Possible spoilers for her movie and Avengers 4 coming up.

Basically, at the end of her movie the Earth would have evaded intergalactic war with the Skrulls, and Nick Fury would have seen the power they posses firsthand. Now, turns out the Skrulls have indeed infiltrated multiple levels of Earth’s infrastructure and the world’s most powerful governments. Not just Earth but many other planets. This prompts Captain Marvel to begin time traveling through the Quantum Realm to begin eliminating the impostors.

This is why Marvel is still in the past, and yet Nick Fury at the end of Infinity War can communicate with her. Clearly if she was an inactive hero or lost in space he wouldn’t have a pager on him at all times.”

Not just that. This theory links Captain Marvel’s arrival in Avengers 4 to Ant-Man’s as it takes into consideration what Kevin Feige had to say about her solo movie. It continues:

“Furthermore, that is also why he has waited to call all these years; he thought that the Snappening in Infinity War was Skrull related. He made that pager to call her if the Skrulls were invading again because by the end of her movie he knows she has a universe to protect, not just an Earth.

Side Note: Kevin Feige has said that Captain Marvel features the Quantum Realm heavily, as Ant-Man and the Wasp did. Plus [spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp] that explains how both Ant-Man and Captain Marvel make it to the Avengers in Avengers 4. I addressed that in some other posts as well.”

So Captain Marvel and Ant-Man will make a joint entry into Avengers 4. That will be interesting to see. But still, we should wait for the solo movie to come out as that film will probably answer every question that we have had about Captain Marvel’s absence and even the Skrull imposters. It will be one thriller event involving Humans, Kree, and the Skrulls. Also, it would be interesting to see whether an MCU hero has actually been replaced by a Skrull imposter or Marvel has saved that plot to be unraveled in later Phase 4.

Brie Larson weighed in on the character arc of Carol Danvers as she said:

“You have this Kree part of her that’s unemotional, that is an amazing fighter and competitive. Then there’s this human part of her that is flawed but is also the thing that she ends up leading by. It’s the thing that gets her in trouble, but it’s also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her.”

Captain Marvel comes out on March 8, 2019.
