Well, we’ve got yet another Avengers 4 theory in play and this time it involves Tilda Swinton’s The Ancient One. It has been reported that Swinton is going to be a part of Avengers 4 even though her character died in Doctor Strange.
Reports about her return surfaced online earlier this year when Avengers 4 was shooting, and even during the reshoots, we got to know that she was brought on set for just one day. While we may not know the truth behind her return just yet, we have another theory which connects to what she revealed back in her first appearance in the MCU.
The Ancient One was the individual who was protecting Earth from the mystical threats out there in the multiverse. She took in Stephen Strange as her new student when he came to her in need of help. She showed him how little he actually knew of the world, and drove him on the path of becoming the new Sorcerer Supreme.
Now there was actually something interesting to note when she sent Stephen on a trip to different dimensions! Watch this clip and focus on what she said to Stephen Strange:
“Some, benevolent and life-giving. Others, filled with malice and hunger.”
In Doctor Strange BTS featurettes, we got to know that the Green-ish World that we saw before the Dark Dimension was indeed the Quantum Realm. Here, Doctor Strange became the second film in the MCU to take a crack at the Quantum Realm. The first one was obviously Ant-Man, and recently Ant-Man and the Wasp took a big dive into the Quantum Realm.
What we understood by the Ancient One’s words was that when she talked about a dimension “filled with malice and hunger,” this was indeed a reference to the Dark Dimension, but if we focus on the other half of the sentence, she said that some dimensions are “benevolent and life-giving,” so this is totally a reference to the Quantum Realm.
We saw during the post-credits scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp that Scott went in the Quantum Realm to collect Quantum Energy for Ava/Ghost so they could fix her, and instead, he was trapped in there because The Pym family became victims to Thanos’ snap.
Now, we have had a theory out there which showed us that right at the time of the snap, if we look at the scenes of Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp simultaneously, we can see that as the people were getting dusted, there were some orange dots surrounding Scott within the Quantum Realm.
These are believed to be the souls of the Snap Victims. This theory suggests that the souls of the victims have actually moved to the Quantum Realm instead of the Soul World. With the Ancient One mentioning that the Quantum Realm is Benevolent and life-giving, this theory is more or less proven to be true.
It means that the snap victims will return from the Quantum Realm, having a new life given to them by the Quantum Realm itself.
We know that the Quantum Realm has a huge involvement in Avengers 4, so this is one of the roles that this dimension will play in the film. For now, we have to wait for the title and first trailer of the film which will hit the internet either in November or the first week of December. Reports have suggested that November will be the month of the release, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Avengers 4 comes out on May 3 and it will presumably star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Renner Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, Samuel L.
