Tom Hardy’s Venom Will Reportedly be a Part of Other Spider-Verse Movies
Sony is bringing us their next big entry in the Superhero genre with Venom starring Tom Hardy. We have seen three trailers of the movie and it has surely had us all impressed with what it has to offer. The project looks promising and it had to be great since Tom Hardy, who is one of the most dedicated actors currently working in Hollywood is a part of this project.
Other cast members of Venom include Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Jenny Slate as Dora Skirth, Al-Jaleel Knox as a Stoner Dude, Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake/ Riot, Scott Haze and Woody Harrelson as unknown characters.
The Venom movie has been reported to adapt the classic 90’s Marvel comics based upon Lethal Protector storyline that sees Eddie Brock becoming a hero in San Francisco. Still, elements of the movie will obviously be altered so that the story fits better on the big screen. Here’s everything you need to know before you watch the movie:
“Before the story begins, Venom makes an agreement with Spider-Man that they will leave each other alone, on the condition that Venom commits no crimes. Venom then moves from New York City to San Francisco and takes up with a group of Californian mole people. Shortly thereafter the father of one of Venom’s victims seeks him out with a group of super-powered mercenaries to take revenge. Spider-Man, seeing misleading coverage of Venom on television, heads to San Francisco to confront him and instead winds up fighting alongside Venom against five new offspring of the Venom Symbiote: Scream, Rage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.”
Sony is starting a whole shared Universe just like other production houses, the only difference would be that this Universe will be filled with just Spider-Man villains, who will be portrayed in their stories as Anti-heroes. It will all depend upon the success of Venom. If Venom does turn out to be successful then it will begin a whole Venom-verse which will bring out the other villains which are currently under development with Sony.
The first movie that will come out after Venom would be the Morbius project which will star Jared Leto in the lead. After that, Sony is looking to bring out movies about Silk, Silver and Black, Kraven the Hunter & Mysterio. Now it is being reported according to Esquire‘s new profile, if director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom, which will come out in October does end up performing well, Tom Hardy will then obviously star in more movies from this shared Universe along with the inevitable sequels for the film.
Also, once Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is done with his thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he could always swing back to Sony’s Venom-verse in order to take him and other villains on. Venom for now will have Riz Ahmed playing the big villain in the form of Riot who is one among 5 Symbiotes.
Riz Ahmed recently got to talking about his villainous role in the movie. Here’s what he said:
“Well my character is a billionaire industrialist, he’s an inventor, he’s a bit of a genius, and he’s really interested in trying to find a future for humanity as we face ecological collapse and war. For him, the solution lies in colonizing other planets. So it’s actually a kind of search for another suitable habitat for humanity, that leads him to the Symbiotes.”
He continued to talk about the movie where he is playing a Villain against someone who is not the typical Superhero that we are used to:
“No one thinks that they are the bad guy, that’s the reality,” the actor said. “People do crazy things, terrible things, but in their mind they justify it. They think that they’re helping the world, helping the other person, helping themselves, they justify it in their own ways. So, for me, when I’m playing a character like Carlton Drake, I’m sure you’ll think I’m crazy but I totally understand what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. He’s trying to serve humanity and he just thinks that he’s best placed to do that and he wants to find a future for the human race. And of course, as the most rich, powerful, successful, intelligent member of the human race, he should be at the center of that future as well. So, I think I’m playing the good guy, but that’s sort of what everyone thinks.”
Venom will open on October 5.
