Avengers: Infinity War – Why Did Loki Not Turn into Frost Giant After His Death?
Avengers: Infinity War unraveled massive mysteries that Marvel had built up throughout these 10 years of awesomeness! So, we have to admit the fact that Infinity War did answer some questions, but doing that it created even more questions in our minds which will only be answered once Avengers 4 hits the theatres. One of the biggest shocks of this movie was that it left a trail of bodies starting from Heimdall & Loki and ending with Nick Fury and Maria Hill! But there are still people who believe that all the dead characters are going to return, especially the God of Mischief Loki!
Loki is considered to be among the top 3 MCU villains and the fans have really loved him and responded well to him, which is why he was the one who faced the Avengers in the first movie. He was so good that Marvel never killed him off, until now. Or did they? Avengers: Infinity War sidelined and killed off many characters to raise the impact of their deaths of the survivors, and to make space for those surviving characters, and Loki was one among them.
He died a hero attacking Thanos so Thanos would spare his brother’s life. but as history has proven, he is the illusionist, the trickster who led to everyone thinking that he was dead for so many years, so why couldn’t he do it again? Everyone including Tom Hiddleston has mentioned the fact that Loki did die in the Infinity War. Hiddleston even knew about it back when he was shooting Thor: Ragnarok. Here’s what he said:
“So, I’ve known about that scene for two years. I met with Marvel in May 2016, and they were actually telling me the story of Ragnarok with concept art and images. The Russos came in, and I introduced myself. So, all four of us sat down, and they said this is how Infinity War begins. My whole journey through making Thor: Ragnarok — I knew this was coming. By the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Loki has been accepted as Thor’s brother again.”
He died an Odinson! Moving past the fact that Loki is confirmed to be dead, there was one question that still bugs everyone. He really is a Frost Giant from Jotunheim so why did he not turn blue instead of turning pale and grey when Thanos choked and broke his neck? He stays in human form constantly using magic so if he is indeed dead then why has the magic not worn off?
If you noticed carefully during the fight amongst Doctor Strange and bony Maw, Strange Mentioned the fact that his spell upon the Eye of Agamotto is simple but unbreakable, to which the Maw replies that he will then take it off his corpse. So this does make us believe that Magic ends once a person is dead, which gives us surety that might be posing in as an illusion somewhere or even as someone else even though Thanos claimed the fact that he is more permanently dead this time.
To prove this, even when we saw him die in Thor: The Dark World, he did not turn blue, instead, he turned pale and grey. And in the end we saw that he was still very alive sitting on Asgard’s throne having sent away Odin and Thor at the same time. So he clearly is not a fool. He is familiar with Thanos so he surely would have known that this was a fight he won’t win and Thanos would be ready for his attack. So, that could just have been a move to save Thor and make everyone believe yet again that he is dead, but in reality, he’s not.
Avengers 4 set photos have confirmed the fact that Loki will return as a part of a time travel sequence, but it will be great if he is still hiding somewhere waiting for his moment to provide us a big thriller. With Marvel, we could expect this even if it is too repetitive.
We will only find out about this in Avengers 4, when it hits the theatres on May 3, 2019 right after Marvel gives us the debut of Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
