ABC President Claims That There Are More Marvel Series In The Works

The decade has been good to Marvel. It was only a couple of years ago that the comic book publisher was at the brink of bankruptcy but now they license their properties to the largest media house out there. The Disney and Marvel collaboration has changes the entire landscape of the movie industry. We now see a rather different take on the Marvel characters than the tone we received in Punisher and The Daredevil movies. The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe is based around the idea of exceptional human beings and other creatures coming together to create a new era of prosperity and peace. It’s a fairy tale spun by the writers and fed to us through our screens. There’s nothing wrong with it, per say, hell, I enjoy them just as much as the next man, but it gets painfully repetitive. On the other hand, there is some magnificence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The kind of stories that we have received from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Netflix are their own kind of achievement. The series format has supported Marvel’s stories much more than a feature-length movie will ever be able to. It is perhaps a good thing that the series is doing as good as they are, at least over on Netflix. Recently Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been hit by a controversy when ABC entertainment was skeptical about the series future.

Channing Dungey sat down with The Hollywood Reporter a few days back and she was asked about the fate of Marvel at ABC entertainment. Being the president of the network it is obvious that Channing would have information about the subject. She had this to say:-

“We’re cooking up a couple things for broadcast,” she teased. “There’s one that I want to talk about and [Marvel TV head] Jeph Loeb won’t let me.”

In this cautiously worded statement, one can assess that there is certainly something that is happening behind the closed doors of the network. Not only that but it also seems that Marvel is in on it. But the question remains is the lady talking about a new twist and a new season for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or is there something new coming for the audiences. Something that will expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or BOTH.

It is a possibility that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will remain alive and may see a few more seasons. Moreover, it can be deducted from the demeanor of madam president that the folks at ABC entertainment have something rather sinister up their sleeve. The fact that Dungey wants to talk about it but can’t suggest that the series is in its final stages. It could also be possible that the network has started filming behind the backs of fans. We may as yet witness a new superhero team coming to the ABC network creating a bridge between the Netflix heroes and the movieverse.

Although both the TV shows and the movies are happening in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movies are yet to mention the existence of the tv shows or their characters. Nothing that happens in the tv shows has ever greatly affected the movies in a way that could be considered material. If there are any story elements then they amount to the delivery of intelligence or information from the tv shows to the Avengers. Even these kinds of connections in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are only limited to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The defenders (both the series and all of the individual series) do mention the events of New York and talk about the existence and the adventures of the Avengers but they have never been able to join the fight like Tony Stark or Nick Fury. The men at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., however, have been closer to the firefight than they would like. The incursion of HYDRA was something that was a very prominent plot point in the movies but its impact on the TV shows was on a completely different level. Not only did it affect character interactions but also changed the core premise of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I wonder what kind of show would this new series being developed by ABC entertainment would be. Can it be that ABC is planning a young mutant series once the Fox-Disney merger goes through? It could be entirely possible that this new tv show will premiere after Avengers 4 and attempt to expand the post-snap and reset universe.
