Another Big Superhero Movie Easter Egg Found in Shazam!

Warner Bros. and DC Comics have created a buzz around the cinema as they not only gave out the trailers for great shows like Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Titans and Young Justice, but they also gave us the two big upcoming movie trailers that we were really waiting for! Aquaman and Shazam! completely stole the day when their trailers were released worldwide.

Some fans actually thought that the Shazam trailer was probably the best thing at the entire Comic-Con as never before has DC Comics attempted to make such a light-hearted fun movie. Their biggest success in the Worlds of DC has been Wonder Woman and even that movie was darker to an extent. Shazam! on the other hand is very innocent at heart and it is a movie that people of all ages could go for and have a great time. Zachary Levi seems amazing in the role and you get a great sense of feeling that this movie is going to do something no one has ever seen with the DC movies.

Shazam's powered up suit

Even the humour in Shazam! does not rely on quips, it rather seems pretty natural and relatable. The movie does seem to be pretty self-contained but we have seen proof that it does belong to the larger DC Universe. The image from EW and the trailer of the movie have proved that, showing references directly from Man of Steel and Batman V Superman. Have a look:

If you focus at the back, there is a Batman Action Figure, a Superman hat, what looks like an original Bat-rang, and a Superman Logo. Along with it, we can see a book that features the battle of Metropolis on its cover. Also in the trailer, we heard Shazam! say to his best friend that he is the one who actually knows all the “Caped Crusader” stuff which is another jab directly at Batman.

What is surprising to know is that the movie does not just have references from the DCEU, but it also has a reference from another big Superhero house of DC known as the Watchmen. While we do know that Watchmen would not have a presence in the DCEU, it is still good to know that the Director of the movie, David Sandberg thought of putting in something the hardcore DC fans are going to love.

A fan on twitter spotted this Easter Egg from a different angle in the movie and since it was doubtful from that angle, he took the question directly to David F. Sandberg who took no time in confirming it by actually showing the Watchmen Easter Egg from the correct angle. Have a look:

So, what you can clearly see here is that there is the iconic badge of the Comedian from Watchmen — best known as The Button — right there on the desk amid a giant cup of yo-yo’s, little toy paddle balls, bouncy balls, and what looks like a stress ball. It feels great to know that this movie is going to portray a wide array of things.

It is easy to imagine that we could actually get to see a cameo from the Man of Steel himself as he has been closely related to Shazam! in the comics.

Shazam Easter Eggs

Shazam! will hit the theatres on April 5, and here’s the official Synopsis of the movie:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
