The movie does feature Thanos in his sincerest form. But it is also a movie about expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are tons of new locations which we will try our best to explain and deconstruct in the following paragraphs.

Earth

Well Duh!!! Earth has been the site of all the events that have been happening around the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the notable exception of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Rumors were already afloat that Wakanda will be the movie’s third and final act. They later came true as Wakanda was shown to house the Mind Stone and the Vision. Wakanda has an army at her disposal and throughout its history; it has never ever been conquered. So it is the ideal site for waging a battle for the fate of the universe. The troops of Wakanda are well trained and their technology rivals that of the most advanced of species in the entire universe. They are the ideal army. Apart from Wakanda, Scotland and America were also two other locations that were shown in the movie.

Knowhere

The place known as Knowhere isn’t exactly a planet or a planetoid. It is the severed head of a Celestial floating in the vacuum of space. Celestials are cosmic beings of immense power that precede all life in the universe. Knowhere is occupied by Taneleer Tivan aka the Collector. The Collector belongs to the Elders of the Universe race – a race of highly powerful species that can harness the power cosmic. The Tivan Group mines Knowhere for its precious resources and this is where the Collector’s precious collection is housed.

Knowhere is where the Reality Stone is located. After being saved by the Guardians, Thor deduces that Thanos will be going after the Reality Stone, which the Asgardians had entrusted to the Collector. Gamora, Starlord, Drax and Mantis go to Knowhere but fail to stop Thanos.

Vormir

While the rest of the planets and locations in Infinity War could be guessed, Vormir was a completely new location that no one else had anticipated to be a part of the MCU. Vormir, in the comic books, is a planet that lies within the Kree inter-galactic Empire and houses a reptilian species that are highly violent and closely resemble dragons.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Infinity War reveals Vormir to be the location of the Soul Stone. Gamora and Thanos travel to Vormir to see a desolate wasteland devoid of life. As they approach the Soul Stone, a major Captain America Villain interrupts them. The Red Skull was hot into space by the Space Stone. Apparently, he was deemed unworthy by the Infinity Stone and was cursed to guide travelers and explorers who came looking for the Soul Stone to Vormir.

Zen-Whoberi

Zen Whoberi is the birthplace and the home planet of Gamora, one of the founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Her past was never explored in detail in the MCU until Infinity War. The movie showed that Gamora was just a child when Thanos and the Chitauri invaded her planet and purged half its population. Thanos claims he did it as the planet was overpopulated and the resources were dwindling. Gamora sees this as genocide and hates Thanos for doing it.

Titan

Titan is the home planet of Thanos. He belonged to a race of super advanced species that dominated Titan and lived in peace. When a catastrophic event came to pass, Thanos proposed wiping out half the population chosen randomly to save the dwindling resources for future use. He was termed a Mad Man and cast out. Titan soon fell into ruin, and Thanos was supposedly the only Titan left. He is now called the Mad Titan.

Nidavellir

Infinity war planets and locations

Nidavellir is the home of the Dwarves of Asgard and one of the nine realms Asgard is sworn to protect. Nidavellir houses the universe’s greatest blacksmiths (the Dwarves) and they make the universe’s greatest weapons. The place is legendary and known only as a myth to almost everyone. It is here that Thor’s hammer Mjolnir was formed. Using the energy of a Neutron Star, Nidavellir’s Dwarven Star Forge can even melt the magical ans super-sturdy Uru Metal. Nidavellir is where Thor, Rocket, and Groot travel to where they meet King Eitri, the only guy left after Thanos killed every other dwarf in Nidavellir. Eitri helps Thor acquire his newest weapon, the Stormbreaker.
