Southbound on Gerry Duggan Parkway

10 Characters Who Will Form The X-Force In Deadpool 2

When Deadpool and X-Force airdrop on the convoy, Deadpool screams the above phrase. Gerry Dugan is one of the greatest writers of Deadpool and he just concluded his 7 years long run in the comic series.

Gail is calling

When Deadpool battles the Yakuza, he claims Gail is calling. Gail Simmons is another influential person in the Deadpool series and the movie is paying homage to her contribution.

Hack Artist who can’t draw feet

Accomplished artist Rob Liefield is known for his unique approach to art in the comic books. His art form is dynamic but lacks sharpness. As a result, he has been the subject of criticism in the past. Deadpool too takes a jab at him.

Pryor’s treats

One of the scenes shows an Ice Cream Truck labeled Pryor’s Treats. Pryor is the surname of Cable’s mother, Madelyne Pryor. Madelyne also happens to be an evil clone of Jean Grey.

Hope

The name of the daughter of Cable is only revealed at the end of the movie. Her name is Hope. In the comics, Hope Summers is the Mutant Messiah. She leads the mutants to victory against the Sentinels in the future.

Irene Merryweather

Deadpool’s first superhero outing is covered by a reporter named Irene Merryweather in the movie. In the comics, she is a major character appearing in the acclaimed Cable & Deadpool series.

The X-Force slaughter

The brutal way each member of the X-Force died in Deadpool 2 is quite similar to the way the same team died in the pages of X-Force #116. Coincidentally, Zeitgeist was actually the comic book leader of the team at that time.

Brown Panther

Deadpool refers to Dopinder as ‘Brown Panther’ in the movie. This is a clear reference to Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Superhero Black Panther.

Black Black Widow

Deadpool even refers to Domino by calling her ‘Back Black Panther’. This is yet another reference to the Marvel Studios’ superhero Black Widow, one of the founding members of the Avengers.

Zip it, Thanos

Deadpool and Cable get into an argument in the climax of the movie and Deadpool shushes the other guy by saying “Zip it, Thanos.” The actor who plays Cable in Deadpool 2, Josh Brolin, also played Thanos in Infinity War.

Winter Soldier Arm

The Winter Soldier Arm reference is a running gag in the sequel to 2016’s Deadpool movie. Deadpool even refers to Cable’s metallic arm and calls him just a “Grumpy old F*ck with a Winter Soldier arm.”

The Lullaby

Remember the Lullaby Deadpool sang to Juggernaut to help him calm down. “The Sun is getting low” is also a song sung by Black Widow to calm down the Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Hawkeye Reference

Hawkeye is one of the most well-known Avengers in the MCU. But strangely, he was left out of Infinity War. When Deadpool loses his powers, he asks for a bow and arrow as he is pretty much ‘useless’.

Slicing the Bullet

deadpool 2

The Bullet Slice action by Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson was one of the superior action sequences in a somewhat lackluster movie that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The same action is done yet again by Reynolds in the movie.

One-eyed Willie

Deadpool calls Cable One-eyed Willie due to his glowing eye. But there is also a movie reference here. Josh Brolin’s first movie was The Goonies. In this movie, Brolin’s character is searching for a treasure that goes by the same name.

John Wick is back

During the Opening credits for Deadpool 2, we see the following line “Directed by ‘one of the guys that killed the dog in John Wick’ “. If that doesn’t ring your bell, I don’t know what will.
