Avengers: Infinity War has finally opened up in theatres and it was the sheer excellence that we were promised. It was a decade in the making as all the previous 18 MCU movies led us into the biggest comic-book event i.e Infinity War and buoy it was totally worth it. We could never have predicted the entire movie as the marketing sometimes mislead us into a different direction, and that is what allowed us to be utterly thrilled towards the end of the movie.
This was Thanos’ movie and as promised, he delivered at being the ultimate big bad. He was surely the best villain of the MCU, going past Loki and Hela. He was not just a big bad cosmic warlord who wants to destroy everything to expand his empire, instead, he was an evil genius who wants to bring balance to the universe even if it means wiping off half the life on all planets.
He believes that only he has the strongest will to take the hardest decisions and is willing to step up to set things right. In a way, he is the hero in his own sick, twisted scheme.
A lot of people expected many different things to happen in this movie, while the movie took a completely different direction in many ways. Moreover, many characters were believed to appear in the movie, but as it turned out, they completely missed out of this movie.
Characters like Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Wasp, Hank Pym, Captain Marvel and Nick Fury were expected to show up in this epic final showdown, but they did not come in at all.
Thankfully, Nick Fury made it into the mix right at the very end during the Post Credits scene, but none of the other characters came in. Hawkeye and Ant-Man were both mentioned and their locations were revealed, rest nothing was there on that part. But the most surprising non-appearance, which definitely needs an explanation is of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Taika Waititi’s Korg, and even Miek.
Thor: Ragnarok ended with all the Asgardians aboard on the ship, moving towards Earth to find refuge there. Among the refugee Asgardians, the main members present were Thor, Loki, Hulk, Heimdall, Valkyrie, Korg and Miek. Then appeared Thanos’ huge Sanctuary II right in front of the little ship of the Asgardians. That’s where the movie ended, and that’s where Infinity War was expected to open.
As expected, the movie did open on that ship scene, but it was already 80% destroyed by the time Infinity War’s first scene came in. We were already at the end of the battle and Thanos had knocked down the mighty God of Thunder, along with the rest of the Asgardians on the ship.
We saw that Heimdall was down, Thor’s trump card Hulk was no match for the Mad Titan, as after losing that fight, Hulk was beamed back to Earth. This cost Heimdall his life as he was stabbed in the heart by Thanos himself. Then came to the God of Mischief who tried to do the right thing this time, but he was also taken down by Thanos and Thor was made to watch his brother die.
Amongst all this brutality there were 3 more characters that should have been present on the ship or at least shown dead. At the end of the battle, the ship of the Asgardians blasted off, and we assumed that everyone aboard that ship would be dead. So the missing characters who were Valkyrie, Korg and Miek should also be dead.
But considering how important and significant Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie was in Thor: Ragnarok, we cannot just imagine her to be dead without knowing about the circumstances that transpired at the time of Thanos attack. She is the last Valkyrie left in the Universe.
She is also being considered to play ‘Female Thor’ in the future Thor movies. Moreover, she is the one who is pitching to Marvel an all-female superhero standalone film after she was inspired by a particular scene she has shot in Avengers 4. Here’s what she said:
“I think in that group was Brie Larson, myself, Zoe Saldana, although she ran off to the bathroom, I think, so she came midway through the pitch but she had been in the rev-up to it. Scarlett Johansson. Pom Klementieff and Karen Gillan, who are both in the Guardians movies. Yeah, I think it was that group. We were just sort of all in a semicircle talking, and it just came up, because none of us really worked together – well, I suppose Zoe, and Karen, and Pom – and wouldn’t it be nice if we could all work together?”
“And we were sort of speculating on their ways in which it might happen in Infinity War, or might not happen. And we thought, ‘No, we should just have a whole movie where we know every day we’re going to arrive and get to work together.’ So we just ran right up to Kevin Feige and started talking about it.”
So what exactly happened to her. We know that Tessa Thompson is a part of the cast in Avengers 4, so we cannot help but ask that how did that happen exactly?
Did Valkyrie leave the ship with Korg and Miek even before Thanos attacked it? And how did she leave that ship? Was it through an escape pod? Why did she do that? Was she going to get some help? But then, where is she now? Is she still afloat somewhere in the deep cosmos?
We assume that all these questions should be answered in Avengers 4. Another possibility of Valkyrie Korg and Miek’s survival would be that they managed to save half of the Asgardians since Thanos’ theme was to kill half the population and leave the rest to prosper and create balance.
Where would half of these Asgardians moving to? Is Valkyrie flying them to Earth? This is what we must get to know in Avengers 4 as if this may be true, then Valkyrie would be reuniting with Thor on Earth, and together, they all will be making their final move upon Thanos along with the rest of the Avengers.
