Here’s How Harley Quinn’s Birds of Prey Caused Trouble For Suicide Squad 2

The last movie to come out in the DCEU was Justice League, which was supposed to blow everyone away, but it did not even make a profit and now the name of Justice League is tainted. So, it is safe to assume that no more Justice League sequels will be having for the next 5-6 years at least. DC is kind of in a weird place right now, and a lot is riding on this year’s Aquaman which is currently very far from its release.

Even though JL was not that great, it still has not stopped WB to bring in more DC projects under development. Our very favorite Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie has been signed up to appear in 2 more movies which are Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad 2.

Only a few movies have confirmed release dates and rest all are placed Under Development. Till now, we only have confirmation for Aquaman, which is set to come out on December 21, 2018, Wonder Woman 2, coming out on November 1, 2019, Shazam!, coming out on April 5, 2019, Suicide Squad 2, probably in 2020 along with Flashpoint.

Rest all the movies that are currently “under development” are The Batman, Man of Steel 2, Black Adam, Deathstroke, Birds of Prey, Batgirl, Nightwing, Justice League Dark, New Gods, Green Lantern Corps and Cyborg but none of them have any sort of release dates confirmed just yet.

We have received a new update on Suicide Squad 2 and the Birds of Prey movie. We all thought that Suicide Squad 2 was the next movie to feature Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn even though she was lined up to appear in 3-4 other Spin-off movies. Rumors were there that Harley Quinn will appear in a Joker & Harley Spinoff movie, Gotham City Sirens, Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad 2 and a Harley Quinn solo movie.

Harley Quinn Movie Birds of Prey Delays Suicide Squad 2

Gotham City Sirens was recently canceled as David Ayer who was signed to direct the movie by WB had to leave as he was working on a sequel to Bright. So that movie was actually converted into Birds of Prey which has now found a new Director. Warner Bros has hired Cathy Yan to direct the Birds of Prey movie. The movie will serve a similar purpose to what Captain America: Civil War did with the introduction of Marvel’s new Superheroes.

Moreover, since this movie is being pushed up, Suicide Squad 2 which was supposed to begin production in the latter half of 2018 has now been delayed to next year, and this was revealed by Variety’s Justin Kroll. Here’s what she tweeted:

“As for SUICIDE SQUAD 2, clearly moving out of 2018 shoot. The move to go with BOP not only had a lot to do with Hodson’s script but also the idea of doing with BATGIRL what Marvel did with Black Panther in CIVIL WAR by introducing them into universe before giving them own film”

As Joss Whedon had to leave the Batgirl project, DC Films hired Christina Hodson to pen the script for Batgirl. Batgirl fans are in great luck as Christina Hodson will be working on the Birds of Prey movie first which will introduce Batgirl for her own Solo movie. Harley Quinn would feature in BoP first, and then we will see her join the Squad of Bad guys again. Suicide Squad 2, directed by Gavin O’Connor will probably come out in late 2020 or early 2021 because of this delay.

As for the cast of Birds of Prey, things are currently a mystery as neither Batgirl nor other female superheroes like Black Canary have been cast till now. For Suicide Squad 2, most of the cast members from the first movie, including Deadshot (Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happyness & Seven Pounds), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman, RoboCop & Easy Money), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney,  Divergent & Water Diviner), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie, The Wolf of Wallstreet), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne, Anna Karenina & upcoming Pan),  Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye- Agbaje, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis, Prisoners  & The Help) and Joker (Jared Leto, Mr. Nobody & Dallas Buyers Club), are expected to return along with a new villain probably.
