Here’s The Real Reason Why Wasp Wasn’t There In Civil War

The Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer is the latest Marvel project to take the internet by storm. After Black Panther and Infinity War, it is the Ant-man and the Wasp that is the third most anticipated movie of 2018 for many fans of the superhero genre.

Scott Lang is back and he is back with a bang. Ant-Man may not have the star power of Infinity war or the all Black cast of Black Panther to boost its rankings, but it has something else, a trick within its sleeve. Ant-Man is, arguably, the funniest outing of Marvel Studios.

No movie comes close, not even Thor: Ragnarok (it comes close but the comedy is taken a bit too far), when it comes to balancing comedy with story, drama, and action in a perfect blend for a blockbuster.

Evangeline Lilly aka The Wasp just can’t keep quiet anymore and is excited about this project. She spilled interesting details about the movie and compared the sequel with the season 4 of popular TV series ‘Lost’. She talked about the direction of Ant-Man and The Wasp and larger MCU. Here’s what she said:

“When I heard about Infinity War and the direction that they’re heading, I did have this moment of realizing, oh, wow, there’s a bit of a déjà vu for me with the Lost franchise. We are hitting that Lost Season 4 space where everything’s about to shift, and you’re about to lose the solid ground underneath you. And Ant-Man and the Wasp, of course, will play a part in that. Those characters are experts in the quantum realm}. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, they are trying everything in their power to safely enter the Quantum Realm and return back from it because they have evidence from the first film that Scott Lang was able to do that. If he can do it, why can’t we? If we do succeed in Ant-Man and the Wasp, then that does open a whole entire new multi-verse to enter into and play around in. I’m not the story creator, so I can’t tell you what they’re going to do with that. But I definitely see the potential there.”

She has confirmed that there will be “Quantum realm” and Hope Van Dyne and Scott Lang will travel in and out of it successfully. She shared her experiences of working with Marvel Boss Kevin Feige and said:

“Frankly, if it wasn’t Kevin at the helm, I think I would be very, very nervous to be losing these pillars and the people who paved a way for characters like the Wasp. When he walked me through the general story arc of Infinity War, it dawned on me: oh, I understand now, we’re moving into this new Phase. The color of that new Phase can be clearly seen emerging through Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor: Ragnarok. It’s just a more colorful, more playful, heightened reality that we’re going to enter.”

Fun Fact: Ant-Man was supposed to be the first superhero movie of Marvel Studios but creative differences between the Studio and the director Edgar Wright led to the latter walking out of the project.

That is the reason why Iron Man was the first movie under the Marvel banner that came in 2008. Ant Man’s roots are ancient. It’s a shame they couldn’t bring him earlier.

You know what they say – Better Late than Never. Ant-Man did come. And it did win many hearts. After his solo standalone movie, Ant-Man was again seen fighting beside Captain America, The Winter Soldier, The Falcon, Scarlet Witch and the rest of Team Cap against Team Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War.

His size-changing abilities were a great help for Team Cap. He took down a plane, War Machine and was a welcome distraction that allowed for Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier to escape.

He was captured and put behind bars later but he did his job and he did it really, really well. Part of the reason everyone is actually excited about the Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp.

But the question that arises now is – Why was Ant-Man alone in Civil War? If the Wasp suit was already revealed to exist at the end of Ant-Man, why didn’t Evangeline Lily’s Hope Van Dyne put it on and fight the good fight at the AirPort Hangar?

That question, my friends, is answered at the very beginning of the Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer itself. Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang is seen asking Evangeline Lily’s Hope Van Dyne the same question in the trailer.

“I just have one question,” Lang says. “When Cap needed help if I’d asked you, would you have come?” That pretty much makes it clear that he never approached her about coming with him, though van Dyne makes sure to let him know that was a mistake.

“I guess we’ll never know, but if you had you’d have never been caught,” van Dyne says.

Yeah, she’s probably right about that. Moreover, Scott Lang’s siding with Team Cap has put Hank Pym and his daughter in a tight spot as well. Lang is in house arrest but Hank and Hope are also on the run due to Scott’s act of defiance against government orders.

According to Peyton Reed, Lang’s actions during Civil War will be questioned by Hank Pym in the movie. This will be interesting as Hank Pym reposed faith in Lang’s abilities to use his powers discreetly but now he has shown to the world what ‘Ant-Man’ is capable of and everyone will come for him.

“The events of Captain America: Civil War gave us something clear, which is: what was Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne’s reaction to Scott having taken this technology out into the world in Civil War?” Reed said. “We had a lot of fun playing around with that. And we play with size and scale a lot. I love the idea of Giant-Man.”

When Captain America and his team rebelled against the government and ended up on the opposite side of the law, they took refuge in Wakanda. But Scott Lang didn’t.

He has a daughter of his own and he couldn’t just stay away from the only thing he truly cares about. Lang not only did reveal the Ant-Man suit’s capabilities in front of everyone to see, he also ended up making Hank and Hope fugitives on the run from the authorities.

The Marvel Studios has released the official synopsis, read it below:

“From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant-Man and The Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a super hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past”.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is about to hit the theaters on July 6, 2018. Are you as excited as we are?!?!
