One Huge Mystery Black Panther Still Hasn’t Solved

Black Panther is finally out and the wait is over. The movie easily hits the Top 3 Marvel movie spots and was surely the best Superhero origin story beating Iron Man. Black Panther was nothing we have ever seen before. It was just sheer perfection. The movie had everything, it had emotion, it had heart, it had humor, it had drama, it had mind-blowing action, and all over, it had a great plot.

Ryan Coogler who previously directed Michael B. Jordan and Stallone starrer Creed was brought in by Marvel studios to become the first Black man to have ever been at the helm of the major Marvel superhero movie. He lived up to the massive hype and expectations and delivered the goods. The plot totally skipped the origin story of Black Panther as he had already been introduced in the MCU in Civil War where he accompanied his father to sign the UN Sokovia accords which will make registration of superheroes mandatory for better oversight. But he lost his father in a massive explosion perpetrated by Winter soldier at the behest of Baron Zemo who brainwashed him to do his bidding. The movie is set up post the events of Civil War. Here is what he said:

“What’s great is that people have already met Chadwick Boseman in Civil War, so now we get to jump in feet first without having to tell a more traditional origin story. We meet him as his world is changing. Black Panther takes place right after the events of Civil War, so T’Challa’s father has just been killed, he has returned home to Wakanda, and T’Challa has to navigate potentially becoming the new ruler of this nation. He never intended to become the king for years because he figured his dad would be around for a long time. T’Chaka’s death is, in a lot of ways, the catalyst for everything that’s happening in Black Panther.”

He added:

“In this movie, a lot like politics, it’s a little tricky to define who’s a good guy. The film very much plays with those concepts, looking at conflicts and different motivations, and who’s with who. What makes him different from other superheroes first and foremost is he doesn’t see himself as a superhero. He sees himself as a politician. That’s the first thing on his mind when he wakes up in the morning: ‘How am I going to fulfill my duties as king of this place?'”

Throughout the movie, a fan would surely have a smile stuck to their face, and in the scenes where things get serious, one would feel it. Every bit that Ryan Coogler tried to convey through this movie was conveyed. It was a cultural masterpiece and the entire team just nailed it on their parts. You cannot ask for anything better than this. The wait was totally worth it. It comes out with a lot of surprising twists throughout the story and people would love it without a doubt.

The movie had really a lot to put in on display, and it was all done in the best way possible, but still, it did not explain a few things here and there, and 2-3 big mysteries that people expected to see get solved in this movie. The biggest secret that people expected this movie to be hiding was the soul stone.

As we are so close to the arrival of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, we know that he will go all guns blazing after the Infinity Stones to put them up in his Gauntlet, to destroy the entire Universe, being the ultimate Mad Titan. Till now, only 5 of the Infinity gems have been revealed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and people first expected the sixth one to show up in Thor: Ragnarok.

Many theorists anticipated that Heimdall may be the one to possess the soul gem considering he can see the souls of this entire Universe. Many fingers also pointed towards Hela and Odin, that either of the two could also have the 6th Infinity Stone with them. But, none of the above three turned out to be the owner of the Soul Stone and Thor: Ragnarok did not make any effort to reveal the gem.

This being done, people thought that Black Panther would definitely be the movie where the Soul Gem gets revealed for the first time within the MCU. But as it turns out, Black Panther went in the same direction that Thor: Ragnarok did as it also did nothing to show the Infinity Stone. It was assumed that Wakanda is a country that is so advanced that it hides itself in plain sight from the rest of the world, so there must be a big reason as to why they’ve been hiding all this time.

People thought that they have been hiding because they have been guarding something really powerful, that could change the entire world, and at the same time, destroy the world as well. The thing Wakanda has been hiding may be something of true power, and the people of Wakanda may not want it to fall into wrong hands. This thing of power was in fact believed to be the 6th Infinity Stone, the soul gem.

Surprisingly, in place of the Infinity Stone, as to what people were expecting, Wakanda was actually guarding abundance of reserves of Vibranium, the Alien Metal that came in as a meteorite millions of years ago, and is the strongest metal upon Earth, helping the Wakandans build a nation and an arsenal of advanced technology gadgets and Weapons. This is what the Wakandans have been hiding from the world in order to protect it from falling into the wrong hands, not the Soul Stone.

Avengers Infinity War

So, it looks as if the revelation of the Soul Stone is a big part of Avengers: Infinity War, and that is why we it is being built up very discretely until the movie comes out. Our bet would still be on Heimdall as he is still alive, and Thanos could kill him and retrieve the stone as the events of Infinity War roll out. Still, we have to wait and find out, as we could end up getting totally surprised by the revelation. But before that do check out Black Panther first. Here is the official synopsis for the movie:

“After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people”.

Avengers: Infinity War will open on May 4, 2018. Black Panther will be seen along with over 35 superheroes who will be fighting alongside against the Mad Titan aka Thanos and his Black Order. Marvel Studios has released three different official synopses of Avengers Infinity War in the last few months in the run-up to the movie. Read it below:

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.
