Empire Magazine’s Top-20-Villains-of-All-Time List Will Blow Your Mind!!

A prominent magazine of the United Kingdom, Empire is the latest to join the Villains Contest bandwagon with its very own Top Ten Villains of All Time List. IGN, Forbes, and Comic Vine have already done several while Empire’s List is the latest and by default includes the latest entries to the villain’s roster. Some of the additions to the list are too good to miss.

Empire’s final list is as follows:

20. Michael Myers (Halloween franchise)

Michael Myers became a phenomenon when the first Halloween movie first hit the movie screens.

Literally a vengeful spirit of Halloween, Myers is one of the greatest horror villains of both this and the last century.

19. T-1000 (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

The Semi-Solid Robot from the future has definitely made it to the list. Perhaps the first action movie ever to CGI its villain, the T-1000 was the zenith of special effects of that time and one of the most memorable as well.

T2: The Judgment Day was a massive blockbuster not just because of Arnold Schwarzenegger but also Robert Patrick’s stunning performance as T-1000. The speculation is he is coming back to reprise his role in new T6 movie to be directed by Tim Miller in collaboration with James Cameron.

18. Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street)

When I first watched this movie, I literally prayed to God to keep this guy away from my dreams.

Armed with knives for fingers and a wicked grin for a smile, Krueger is what you call your worst nightmare.

17. Agent Smith (The Matrix Trilogy)

Agent Smith was an AI program created by the most powerful computer on Earth to keep the Matrix in check. It went rogue and tried to take over it. Hugo Weaving’s portrayal of the character is brilliance personified.

The way he would say to Neo – Mr. Anderson is just hauntingly beautiful and resonated with sci-fi lovers.

16. Norman Bates (Psycho)

When a guy is taken over by a weird form of Oedipus complex, a damsel in distress starts to have second thoughts.

Norman Bates is the result of Insanity taking over someone’s psyche. Hitchcock does know what he is doing. Well, there is a reason why Alfred Hitchcock is considered to be an institution and not just a man.

15. Palpatine (Star Wars franchise)

He was a good guy…. Or he pretended to be one. The Prequel Trilogy was a disaster but the big Reveal that the guy everyone thought was good was actually the one behind everything took us by surprise.

He was the silver lining in the prequels and pulled off an amazingly evil performance in the trilogy.

14. Sheriff of Nottingham (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves)

Alan Rickman portrays the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham that terrorizes the innocent villagers via ridiculous taxes.

The fact that this renowned character is played by the legendary Alan Rickman himself is reason enough. He was a method actor who always got into the skin of his roles.

13. Nurse Ratched (One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest)

Nurses are supposed to be cool and kind right? Well, this movie will make you think again. She is one evil, dreaded nurse you don’t want to be around you when you need medical care.

If you think Nurses are being of Joy, Nurse Ratched will make you realize to never judge a book by its cover.

12. Sauron (The Lord of The Rings franchise)

He may be just an eye but he still managed to be the big bad of one of the most epic trilogies in cinematic history. Sauron isn’t just evil. He is THE evil.

Sauron is also known by other names such as Necromancer, Servant of Morgoth, Annatar, Argano, the Dark Power, the Great Eye etc.

11. Gollum (The Lord of The Rings franchise)

What is scarier than a crazy crooked goblin-like creature with a penchant for riddles?

The answer is a Crazy crooked Goblin-like creature that lives in caves and eats flesh. Gollum’s mysterious origins add to his aura.

10. The Alien (Alien Franchise)

The only non-humanoid creature to make it to the list, Ridley Scott’s Alien movie is a staple of fiction.

alien covenant

The Xenomorphs are beings of pure hate that epitomize carnage. Even the blood that flows through them is acid. These creatures are so ugly and loathsome that you will vomit.

9. Voldemort (Harry Potter franchise)

The Harry Potter series would be incomplete without the guy with almost a nose. Lord Voldemort and his incredible schemes to rule over the Wizarding world are what made the Harry Potter series so famous.

He is one evil, dark wizard who was hell-bent on avenging his past. He was someone ‘who must not be named’. His name was Tom Riddle.

8. Anton Chigurh (No Country for Old Men)

Anton Chigurh is a weird fellow. He uses a fire extinguisher with a nail launcher as a weapon to kill people. Weird certainly amounts to creepy. And creepy is all he’s got.

This guy has got some serious acting chops. Check out Skyfall if you don’t believe me.

7. Kylo Ren (Star Wars franchise)

Kylo Ren is a newcomer to this list. But it is not by sheer villainy he made it to the 7th spot. When it comes to layers and complexity as a character, Kylo tops every other antagonist on screen.

He has mastered the force and did not hesitate one bit using it against Supreme Leader Snoke and killing him.

6. Hans Landa (Inglorious Bastards)

The sweet-talking Nazi SS officer from hell is one hell of a baddie. His cunning and opportunism make him a force to be reckoned with.

Hans Landa is a fascist by ideals and a murderer by hobby. This was truly a breakout role for Christoph Waltz as he got several influential roles afterward and award nominations.

5. Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs)

This role was what made Anthony Hopkin’s career. After so many years, it still defines him.

Hannibal Lecter’s grasp of the Criminal psyche and his unnerving conversations with Foster’s character are frightening to say the least.

4. Hans Gruber (Die Hard)

Who doesn’t love John McClane?!?!? What made Die Hard so famous? Was it Bruce Willis’ yippekayay alone that made it to the greatest action movie ever? Enter Hans Gruber.

This reaction is real as Rickman aka Hans Gruber was actually made to fall from 25 ft altitude.

3. Loki (MCU)

Tom Hiddleston is a treat to watch as the on-screen God of Mischief of Asgard. Hiddleston was already a well known actor of the industry. But it was playing Loki that turned him into an overnight sensation.

Loki is one of the biggest crowd pullers and fans just love to see him onscreen as he plays it so well effortlessly.

2. The Joker (The Dark Knight)

What would we give to bring back Ledger from the dead!!! Sadly all good things come to an end. After giving the performance of a lifetime as the Clown Prince of Crime, Ledger passed away due to a medication overdose.

Heath won the Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” in a motion picture and truly deserved it. He immortalized the character of Joker and it’s almost impossible for anyone to reach to that level.

1. Darth Vader (Star Wars franchise)

villains

The living, breathing god of evil is the guy that makes it all the way to the top. Darth Vader is not just an evil character. He is an actual God.

There literally exists a cult in the real world that worships Vader as their God. He is one of the greatest sci-fi villain ever put onscreen. He is the inspiration behind so many bad guys who wanted to destroy galaxies or worlds.
