The Upcoming CW Crossover Will Bring Not 1 or 10 But Over 20 Heroes In One Scene

The DC fans are so damn excited to see their favorite superheroes in the Justice League as the moment has truly arrived. The Warner Bros. has promised to ‘unite the seven’ which includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Green Lantern. But in just two weeks time, the mega CW-DC crossover of four major shows – Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl will unite 20 heroes in a particular scene. There are some chances that it can go as high as 35 superheroes under one roof. The speculation is that it will happen on the second night of the 4-night crossover.

Here’s what Brandon Routh aka Ray Palmer said about the crossover:

“I have a limited adventure in the crossover, but I do get to work with a few people that we had a good time. The best thing that we got to do was the big gathering of everyone here in our world, on the Waverider, which was pretty awesome to have all of those superheroes together, and it was a really unique and fun thing which I think the audience will like as well.”

He added

“We used to get upset about have nine characters on the bridge and figuring out how to shoot that, but having 21 or whatever it was is pretty insane. But Greg Smith, who was our director for our episode, knew what he wanted pretty quick. You have to have your ducks in a row when doing a crossover because people are coming from four different shows, like ‘We have Melissa for 2 hours and we have Grant for an hour, and we have Stephen for 30 seconds,’ so you’ve gotta get the shot!”

The CW had revealed the theme of the crossover on social media i.e Crisis on Earth X through a poster designed by legendary Wonder Woman artist Phil Jimenez.

The story will revolve around how the rogue versions of superheroes and villains crash the wedding party of Barry Allen and Iris West. It will be grander, deadlier and stakes will be higher.

But Barry Allen- Iris West isn’t the only couple who will get married, another high profile couple of Arrorverse will tie the knot – Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. Yes, you read it right.

A set photo has revealed that CW Crossover is pulling off double wedding with Diggle standing by their side.

In DC Comics, Earth X is a parallel world set in pre-crisis multiverse where German won the World War II which forces the freedom fighters to wage a war against the Nazis. In the upcoming CW Seed animated feature Freedom Fighters: The Ray, we will learn more about the evil versions of our favorite superhero characters.

Further, according to TVLine, Russell Tovey (Quantico fame) will be playing the character of Ray in live-action as he is also the voice of the character in animated version. His character description goes like this:

“Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”

CW released the official synopsis of the mega-crossover event:

“Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) and Iris’s (guest star Candice Patton) wedding brings the gang together, but things go awry when villains from Earth-X attack the ceremony. All of the superheroes band together with help from their super friends like Citizen Cold (guest star Wentworth Miller), The Ray (guest star Russell Tovey), Felicity Smoak (guest star Emily Bett Rickards), and Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) to take on their most formidable villains yet. Earth’s mightiest heroes – Green Arrow (guest star Stephen Amell), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), The Flash (guest star Grant Gustin) and White Canary (guest star Caity Lotz) – lead their teams into battle to save the world.”

From the above description, we can clearly see that the crossover will feature ‘Citizen Cold’ storyline from the comics wherein an alternate timeline (due to Flashpoint) Snart/Captain Cold becomes Citizen Cold. He is an upstanding citizen of the city instead of a street criminal. He is even in a relationship with Iris West. Last year, Legends of Tomorrow TV series focused on the fractured relationship between Captain Cold and Heat Wave, signaling the fact that Snart is moving towards his Citizen Cold arc from the comics where he is actually a hero protecting lives, whereas Heat Wave went rogue and sold out his team to Time Pirates in exchange for his safe return to January 2016 Central city.

The actor Wentworth Miller first played Captain Cold in Flash season 1 in 2014 and then he was brought into Legends of Tomorrow. But recently he took to his Instagram account and confirmed that his time in Arrowverse has come to an end as he is shooting his final episodes.

Till now, there are two promos that have been released by CW ahead of 4-way crossover.

The first promo is very brief but gave insight on what to expect from the upcoming crossover event. We can see Green Arrow leading the team comprising of The Flash, White Canary, Supergirl and Alex Danvers through the corridor of Star Labs on Earth-1. Most of the action will take place on Earth-X given the title itself. It is for the first time we see Alex in the crossover, she was missing last time so it would be fun to see her interact with members of Team Flash, Team Arrow, and Legends.

In the second teaser, the villains on Earth-X have been revealed. We can see an evil Flash, Nazi Supergirl, and Arrow. We got a closer look at Nazi Oliver Queen pointing a Luger at someone; snippets of Cisco wearing a formal dress before something blows up in the background. There is an intimate hug being thrown into the mix and then finally heroes lining up behind White canary, Alex Danvers, and Kid Flash.

Earlier, we learned that one of the evil villains who will be making a comeback is Earth-X version of Prometheus but it will not be played by Josh Segarra. In Arrow season 5, the show deliberately decided to do away with supernatural villains and instead chose a man who is D.A. of Star City and is out to avenge his father killed by Arrow in cold blood. Prometheus literally turned the world of Green Arrow upside down and broke him both physically and mentally. He has made Oliver’s son William believe that his father is a bad man, as shown in the new Arrow trailer.

In the season 5 finale, Prometheus killed himself which led to multiple explosions on the Lian Yu causing death and destruction of seemingly everyone. He is clearly dead so the question is who could be Earth X Prometheus. In the season, Prometheus was always behind the mask and the most common theory about his identity was that he was a figure from Oliver’s past. It turned out to be Chase, so now fans are speculating that it could be Roy Harper on Earth-X as the actor Colton Haynes has also signaled his return to the show.

The CW is going all guns blazing to make this year’s crossover bigger and better than last years’ which was like a high-octane action adventure. The crossover will begin with Supergirl and Arrow and concludes with Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. It’s going to be one hell of a showdown. Are you ready for a visual spectacle? Will the TRP’s shoot through the roof? What do you think? Comment
