Here’s Why Deathstroke Is The Perfect VILLAIN For The Batman

For a while there, it seemed like there was no information on the new Batman solo project except the various speculations from fans. That changed after Ben Affleck dropped the bomb on fans by posting a short clip of Deathstroke on his Twitter. The actor created a buzz that may have been intentional or not, we will never know. It was soon confirmed that Deathstroke would be the main villain for the new film. Joe Manganiello was cast as the titular villain.

Batman star Ben Affleck has recently been doing press and promotions for his new feature, The Accountant, and he has been the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to the topic of Batman. Affleck had recently confirmed that J.K Simmons who plays Commissioner Gordon in Justice League will reprise his role for the new solo movie and also talked at length about Batman Vs. Superman. The actor dropped another meaty morsel about Deathstroke in his interview with Collider:

“I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with [Batman] well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52, the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”

In the New 52 comic book that Affleck mentions, Batman is an older character with a more jaded view on justice. Slade Wilson a.k.a Deathstroke is also older than he is often depicted. And like Affleck said, a good match up for the Caped Crusader. Slade Wilson is an army vet and experimental test subject granted superhuman strength. The New 52 also depicts Deathstroke as a member of several teams which also include Amanda Waller’s Team 7. And with the testy meeting that we last saw Bruce Wayne and Waller having in the last scene of Suicide Squad, who knows if it would also affect the new Batman film.
